B Call to landscape contractors The Tribe is developing a list of landscape contractors to solicit propos als for landscaping services at its Chemawa Station property in Keizer. Qualifications: Licensed Landscape Contractor in the state of Oregon Membership in Oregon Landscape Contractors Association with OLCA Certified Landscape Technicians Scope of work: Visit site twice each month Police site each visit; pickup and dispose of any trash Mow and blow as required (approx. 18 times a year) Edge lawn every other visit during growing season Fertilize twice a year Pick upblow leaves as appropriate Trimprune shrubs under 8 feet as appropriate for appearance Maintain annual plantings Refresh barkdust Provide tree service as required (includes hedges and shrubs over 8 feet) Exercise and service irrigation systems Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority Housing Board of Commissioners seeking members Board positions open to Tribal or non-Tribal applicants The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority Board has three board of commissioners seats expiring in March. The positions have a term expiring in March 2011. Interested persons should have a demonstrated interest in housing and expe rience in the housing field in some capacity, including: affordable housing development, property management, residential building construction, housing finance, housing planning and other housing-related areas. The board oversees all housing development, housing manage ment, housing programs and housing operations for the Tribe, and is responsible for policy decisions. The board currently meets at 5 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Housing Authority office in Grand Ronde, and holds work sessions as needed. Lowita Ann Barrios Dec. 26, 1958 - Jan. 6, 2008 Tribal member Lowita Ann Barrios, 49, of Amity passed away on Jan. 6 at Legacy Hopewell House Hospice Center in Portland after battling cancer. She was born Dec. 26, 1958, to Riley and Alice (Surprenant) Porter in Kenosha, Wise. She was Grand Ronde on her father's side of the family. She was married and divorced. Mrs. Barrios lived in McMinnville un til 2007, when she moved to Amity. She worked as a cook at Spirit Mountain Casino for seven years. She enjoyed crocheting, making Indian dolls and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Brandie Long of Amity and Lupe Suarez of McMinnville; son, Tony Suarez of Otis; three sisters, Mary Beasley of Medford and Marilyn Palomar and Lynn Mitchum of Salem; three brothers, Michael Porter of Springfield, James Porter of Dallas and John Porter of Spokane, Wash.; a close friend, Beverly Turner; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service was held Jan. 10 at Adamson's Sheridan Fu neral Home. Chaplain Harold Otterlei officiated. Burial occurred in the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde cem etery off Grand Ronde Road. Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home handled arrangements. Deby Mignon Haskins July 31, 1973 - Jan. 18, 2008 Tribal member Deby Mignon Haskins, 34, of Portland passed away Jan. 18. She was born July 31, 1973, in Portland to Buddy John and Irene Louise Haskins Jr. She lived in Portland before moving to California, where she graduated from Areata High School in 1991. She returned to Portland and worked at various businesses as a secretary. She was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and enjoyed music and writing inspirational poetry. She is survived by her daughter, Camilla Zelma Haskins of Portland; mother, of Areata, Calif.; grandmother, Marilee Norwest of Grand Ronde; sisters, Laura Barney, Fawn Haskins and Sonja Haskins of Portland, Sharlene Barney and Rosanna Jackson of Areata, Calif., Irene Sargeant of Portland, Janis Dumont of Myrtle Creek, and Charisse Haskins and Julia Haskins of Warms Springs; brothers, James Barney, Warren Caleb Sargeant and Miles Haskins of Portland; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father in 2006 and a sister, Zelma Rochelle Sargeant. Viewing was held Jan. 23 in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center and a funeral service was held Jan. 24 in the Grand Ronde Tribal gymnasium. Interment followed in the Grand Ronde Tribal Cem etery. Aaron Richard Erickson Dec. 2, 1968 - Nov. 27, 2007 Tribal member Aaron Richard Erickson, 38, of Olympia, Wash., passed away suddenly on Nov. 27, 2007, due to cardiac arrhythmia. He was born Dec. 2, 1968, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Richard L. and Scarlett R. Erickson. He married Rachael Clemons on June 26, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nev. Family members said he was an awesome husband, father, son and brother. He was always ready to help anyone who needed a hand. He will be missed by many people. I le is survived by his wife, of Olympia; son, Zachary of Olympia; daughter, Zoie of Olympia; father of Centralia and mother of Olympia; sisters, Angie Erickson-Smith of Tumwater and Tatum Erickson of Olympia; brother, Ryan Erickson and his wife, Celeste, of Las Vegas, Nov.; and grandparents, Ed and Mildred Thiessen of Hoquiam, Wash.
