Attention Tribal Members 2008 GENERAL COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE I Sunday, Jan. 6 Grand Ronde, 1 1 a.m. Dear Smoke Signals: The family of Jackie Whisler would like to graciously thank the com munity, family and friends for the abundance of warmth shown towards Jackie before, during and after her illness. Thank you for the words of kindness, cards, flowers, memorial contribu tions, her cousins Carmen for reading the rosary and Mark for the eulogy, our maintenance crew for setting up the gym, Wendell Olson for running the audiovideo, our cemetery crew, St. Michael's Church, Father Quintal, the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center, and to Janelle Justen and Brad Sav age for hosting a dry place to end the day. A special thank you to Eagle Beak drum, Canoe Family drum, Chicha's Chinuk Wawa singers, and Jan Michael Reibach for the wonderful music. We appreciate Virginia, Lonnie, Angella and Stephen for the delicious meal, and all who helped in the kitchen and donated money and food. Our gratitude also goes to Shelly who made sure Jackie's nails were painted throughout the last few months, Erica and nurses from hos pice, and the staff at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and Infusion Services. In addition, Jackie and Rob would like to thank everyone for the fund raising benefits held in her honor. Jackie tried a few times to write a thank you but was overwhelmed by the generosity. Please know that she sincerely appreciated this. Jackie's lively spirit will live on in all who knew her. We hope some carry on her inspiration and others are humbled by her example. She is an angel. Thank you from the family of Jackie Whisler Dear Tribal members: In December, this Tribe lost a leader, teacher and beloved friend when Jackie Whisler passed. Jackie was a leader in our Tribal community in many ways. Jackie was a teacher. A loving, laughing teacher from a family of teach ers. She taught the language that her aunts taught and that her family loved. She has been a big part of restoring Chinuk Wawa to this community with Tony Johnson and others, and we owe her our gratitude for keeping the language of our Tribal community alive. Jackie said she knew that the kids had really learned the language once she caught them fighting in Chinuk Wawa. Jackie worked, spoke and fought for the restoration of this Tribe. With her father, friends and partners, these Tribal members realized what many people thought couldn't be done. They restored the Grand Ronde Tribe to its rightful place in the family of Tribes. All Grand Ronde Tribal members owe Jackie and these Restora tion leaders our continuing gratitude. Jackie always said what she thought. By her example, she reminded me and those around her to be brave, to say what you think, to be real and to have fun whenever possible. Not by saying so, but by being the strong, honest, brave, fun woman that she was. Her contagious laugh is missed by all of us who loved her. Jackie Whisler's family, friends and Tribe suffered a terrible loss in her passing. We have lost a teacher of the people, leader in this community and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dearest friend. We remember with love and gratitude the many ways that she served her Tribe and remember her as a humble and down-to-earth leader. Hayu masi pus kanawi mayka munk pus mayka tillixum Jackie.
