Smoke Signals 1 1 AUGUST 15, 2007 CALL TO TRIBAL MEMBERS The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are looking for students to partici pate in the Chemeketa Community College Fire Suppression I EMT Paramedic program at the Salem Campus. The Tribe's Adult Vocational Training Program will fund tuition, books, and fees for eligible students. The Fire program is a two-year commitment and students will receive on the job training. Upon completion students will receive both an Associates Arts of Science in Fire Suppression Technology and an Emergency Medical Technology Paramedic degree. Detroit, OR Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and hear from experts in the Natural Resources field. Ro tate through stations that include archaeology, cultural resources, recreation, wilderness management, forest products, wildland fire fighting, and more! Meet Forest Service employees and Tribal representatives who share a common interest in Natural Resource management. Learn about what educational choices they made to help them fulfill career goals. At 6 - 8 p.m. the Tribal Library will host an informal session for people to come and share with others stories they have about hop picking. The library will exhibit photographs, books and other items related to our families hop picking experiences. Bob Tom will bring his heirloom hop basket for display during the evening. Refreshments will be provided. The event will take place in Classroom 126 and in the Tribal Library. Grades pre-school through 12th. Financial criteria applies. This is a first-come, first-served program. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES 1. All students are required to file for Federal Financial Aid. Continuing students are expected to file prior to February 15 of each year. A copy of the Federal Financial Aid application must be submitted to the Tribal Education Program in order to determine program eligibility. 2. All students are responsible for having their grade reports sent to the tribal Education Program upon completion of each TermSemester. Either make arrangements with the Registrar's office to have the reports sent directly to the Tribal office or mail a copy of your grade report to the tribal office yourself. 3. All students must maintain a 2.00 GPA and successfully complete a mini mum of 12 credit hours per termsemester to remain eligible for funding. 4. Students are allowed one term of Probationary Status. Students who are placed on PROBATIONARY STATUS will not be awarded the following term until they have provided the Tribal Education Program Specialist a copy of their grade reporttranscript. Transcripts must include the term of probation and must show successful completion of 12 credit hours and verify that a 2.00 GPA has been earned. NO AWARD WILL BE MADE UNTIL TRANSCRIPTS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED. 5. It is the student's responsibility to remain in "good academic standing." If a student demonstrates an on againoff again pattern of being placed on Probation ary Status, they will be placed on probationary status for one complete academic year. Failure to meet minimum academic and or attendance requirements during the probationary termsemester will result in suspension from the program. 6. Students, please notify the Education Department of address changes and telephone number changes as soon as they occur. 7. If emergencies occur that affect your attendance notify the Education Program and the college IMMEDIATELY! (Tribal Education Specialist, College Registrar's Office, College Financial Aid Office.) 8. Students who withdrew from school due to medical or health related rea sons must obtain a Statement of Verification from their physician or health care provider identifying need to withdraw from school. Student must also obtain a Statement of Releases from their physician that identifies ability to return to school. Copies of physician's statements must be submitted to the Education Program Specialist. 9. All students must sign a "Release of Information" form regarding at tendance, financial aid transcripts, education budgets, progress and grade reports. 10. Students, be aware that if you quit school or withdraw early from school you will be required to reimburse the Education Department money you received to attend school. 1 1. Students entering their SENIOR year are required to have a Graduation AuditEvaluation completed Fall TermSemester and provide a copy of the AuditEvaluation to the Tribal Education Program Specialist.
