AUGUST 1,2007 A Publication of the Grand Ronde Tribe www.grandronde.org Hi giiwys or our Anegsioi4 The 2007 Canoe Journey, "Paddle to Lummi" began on Saturday, July 21 for Grand Ronde. This year's journey will consist of more than 200 miles of paddling beginning at the Squaxin Island Tribe and finishing up at the Lummi Nation on Monday, July 30. The Tribal participants will then celebrate with the Lummi Nation who will also host the final protocol. This photo was taken during the 2006 Canoe Journey. Tribal Candidates Forum Held On Thursday, July 26, the 2007 Tribal Candidate Forum was held at the Tribal Community Center. There was a dinner and a i question and answer i session. J 0 II '3E tXFipwftnj By Ron Karten Behind the scenes, Tribal mem ber Bryan Mercier, a past Udall Foundation intern and now Native Program Advisor, Office of Policy and Programs at the federal Trea sury Department, raised funding for the group's National Biodiesel Bus Tour, a two-month tour across the country honoring ten years of community service in the name of Arizona Congressman Morris Udall. Thirteen Udall scholarship alum ni rode the bus to visit sustainable cities, Native American commu nities, college campuses and na tional parks, all highlighting public service projects and advances in biodiesel travel.
