Tribal Career Development Program Off To Good Start By Toby McClary Tribal Elder Sanda "Sam" Hen ny has spent many years of her employment at Spirit Mountain Casino's Human Resources Depart ment focusing on the progression of Tribal careers. Her most recent endeavor, however, seems to also be the most successful. Henny, along with Tribal member David DeHart, runs what is known as the Tribal Career Development program, (TCD), and helps to find the right career paths for Tribal members. "The program is for retention of Tribal employees," said Henny. "A majority of our turn-over has to do with external difficulties. Meeting with Tribal members one-on-one gives us an idea of the basic needs of each individual." The successes that can be found in Tribal careers are no mystery to Henny as she herself has climbed up the ranks in her years of service to Spirit Mountain Casino. She started in the Training Department for Human Resources and was shortly promoted to Tribal Developmentor. Now, "developmentor" may seem as a new or non-existent word but when describing her position, it makes perfect sense. In breaking up the word, you get "develop" as she helps to develop Tribal careers and you get the word "mentor" as she men tors Tribal members along the way.
