2 Smoke Signals MARCH 15, 2007 March General Council Meeting By Siobhan Taylor The March 4 General Council meeting drew a packed house. The topic was the Tribe's history, strategy, financial considerations and timelines regarding off reservation gaming. Presenters included Tribal member David Lewis from Cultural Resources, Larry Kovach from Finance, Rob Greene from Legal, Siobhan Taylor from Public Affairs and Justin Martin, a Tribal member and lobbyist for the Tribe. Due to the sensitive nature of the program, Tribal Council moved to take the meeting into Executive Session for Tribal mem bers and presenters only. As a result there was little for Smoke Signals to report at deadline. After a lunch break, the meeting continued in Executive Session. The last minutes of the meeting were held outside of Executive Session. During the Other Business part of the program Tribal members thanked Council and staff for their presentation and asked for continued updates to keep them informed about the off reservation gaming issue. The next General Council meeting will be held on Sunday, April 1. The Veterans' board also meets the first Tuesday of each month. .For more information, contact Wayne at 503-472-1673. ; Attention Grand Ronde Tribal & Community Members: The Cultural Resources Department is seeking individuals interested in serving on the Grand Ronde Cultural Trust Board, part of the Oregon Cultural Trust program. This is a statewide cultural plan to help raise funding for investment in Oregon's Art, Humanities and Heritage. Cultural Trust funds are dispersed annually to county, city, and tribal governments in Oregon. A Cultural Trust board consisting of five Tribal and local community members is needed to assist in directing funds for various cultural activities through small grants. Three seats on the board are open to general tribal and commu nity members. Individuals interested in serving are encouraged to apply. Applications for the board are available at the Cultural Resources Department. All applications must be turned in to Cultural Resources by 5 p.m. on Friday April 20.
