Tribal Delegation Welcomes Linfield's Nineteenth President By Toby McCIary On Friday, March 2, Linfield College hosted the Inauguration of Dr. Thomas L. Hellie, Linfield's nineteenth elected President. Tribal Council members Cheryle Kennedy, Wink Soderberg, Kathleen Tom, and Wesley "Buddy" West served as delegates of the Grand Ronde Community. There was a luncheon for Hellie held at the Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville. Shortly thereafter, half of the Ted Wilson Gymnasium at Linfield College campus was filled with students, alumni, faculty, friends and family to celebrate Hellie's inauguration. "I vow to do my utmost to serve our students and the world by educating global citizens," said Hellie in his inauguration address. Hellie has served as Linfield's President since April of 2006. He has a bachelor's degree (magna cum laude) in theatre from Luther College as well as a master's degree and Ph. D. in theatre history from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After the inauguration, a reception followed in the Fred Meyer Lounge. At the reception, Kennedy, Soderberg, Tom, and West presented Hellie with a Tribal logo Pendleton blanket and welcomed him to the community.
