Smoke Signals 1 1 JANUARY 1,2007 sonminK pi?iMiEainnES Oregon Health & Science University's Equity Summer Research Program Applications for Oregon Health and Science University's Equity Summer Research Program are now available online at http:www.ohsu.eduohs ueduacademicsomdiversityequity.cfm This program is offered through the OHSU School of Medicine's Gradu ate Program and Diversity Affairs office. In order to qualify, applicants must meet these criteria: Be a rising sophomore or junior Haven taken at least one year of biology or chemistry Have experienced significant economic or educational disadvantage, i.e. first generation college student, lack of educational opportunities, ethnic or cultural disparities, family circumstances. Students are paired with research mentors to work full-time in a re search lab. Not only do they gain valuable research experience, but they also have the opportunity to attend scientific seminars and lab meetings and to mingle with other students and mentors on the OHSU Marquam Hill campus. The program runs for 8 weeks in the summer and offers a cost of living stipend to successful applicants. All application materials must be RECEIVED in our offices by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2007 . There will be no exceptions to this deadline, so urge students to request their letters of recommendation and transcripts early in the process. Women and under-represented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. High school seniors with a 3.3 cumulative GPA, GED students, high school graduates who have not begun college studies are eligible to apply. This scholarship pays for 100 of unmet need for college for up to nine years. For more information, visit www.aigc.com The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Youth Sponsorship Program CTGR Youth Sponsorship can only be used one time per calendar year (Januaryl to December 31). The amount of the sponsorship is for, but not to exceed, up to $200 The Sponsorship can be used for any school or community related activity i.e. sports campsteams, dance classes, music lessons, school fees, swimming lessons, summer camps, academic enrichment, etc. Eligibility Guidelines: 1. Youth must be an enrolled CTGR Tribal member. 2. Youth must be currently attending school or an alternative form of certified and recognized educational program. 3. Youth must be in grades Kindergarten through the 12th.
