Equity Summer Research Program
Applications for Oregon Health and Science University's Equity Summer
Research Program are now available online at http:www.ohsu.eduohs
ueduacademicsomdiversityequity.cfm This program is offered through the OHSU School of Medicine's Gradu
ate Program and Diversity Affairs office.
In order to qualify, applicants must meet these criteria:
Be a rising sophomore or junior
Haven taken at least one year of biology or chemistry
Have experienced significant economic or educational disadvantage, i.e.
first generation college student, lack of educational opportunities, ethnic
or cultural disparities, family circumstances.
Students are paired with research mentors to work full-time in a re
search lab. Not only do they gain valuable research experience, but they
also have the opportunity to attend scientific seminars and lab meetings
and to mingle with other students and mentors on the OHSU Marquam
Hill campus.
The program runs for 8 weeks in the summer and offers a cost of living
stipend to successful applicants.
All application materials must be RECEIVED in our offices by 5 p.m. on
Thursday, February 15, 2007 . There will be no exceptions to this deadline,
so urge students to request their letters of recommendation and transcripts
early in the process.
Women and under-represented minorities are especially encouraged to
apply.

Scholarships for Native American Students
Catching the Dream offers 220 scholarships this year to Native col
lege students in the U. S. Students must have outstanding academic
records, test scores and leadership abilities. They must submit an
essay, three letters of recommendation, high school transcripts and
ACT or SAT test scores. They must also seek and apply for all other
sources of funds, including private scholarships. Applicants should
at a minimum find all other scholarships on www.fastweb.com

Library statistics for November: Issued 16 new cards, had
493 patron visits, there were 629 circulations, 238 donations and
42 computer sign ins in the 17 days of service.

Family Literacy Night for parents and their childchildren in

New Collection Items Include:
Significant number of Audio titles. The Library has cassette re
corders available for Elders to check out with the audio books.
A few new videos
Many children books about the seasons and the holidays
Several titles on cooking and crafts
Teens are welcome to come in and use the new Teen Homework
Center in the Tribal Library. Basic supplies and materials are
available for student use in the Library. Reference materials are
available in the center as well as calculators & basic tools.

The workshops will be taught by Northwest Computer Learning Center
and will run from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the computer lab in the Adult Education
Building. Cost for a workshop is $150 and eligible Tribal members can apply
to the Short-Term Training program for assistance with registration costs.
Space is limited to the first 15 who register.

Time's Running Out For The Gates
Millennium Scholarship
January 12 is the 2007 deadline date for the Gates Millennium Schol
arship. High school seniors with a 3.3 cumulative GPA, GED students,
high school graduates who have not begun college studies are eligible to
apply. This scholarship pays for 100 of unmet need for college for up to

The Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde Youth Sponsorship Program
CTGR Youth Sponsorship can only be used one time per calendar year
(Januaryl to December 31). The amount of the sponsorship is for, but not to
exceed, up to $200 The Sponsorship can be used for any school or community
related activity i.e. sports campsteams, dance classes, music lessons, school
fees, swimming lessons, summer camps, academic enrichment, etc.
Eligibility Guidelines:
1. Youth must be an enrolled CTGR Tribal member.
2. Youth must be currently attending school or an alternative form of
certified and recognized educational program.
3. Youth must be in grades Kindergarten through the 12th.
