Smoke Signals 4 MAY 1,2006 Apprenticeship Program Basic Fire Protection, Inc. is now accepting applications for entry into a 5-year apprenticeship program for Fire Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669. A qualified applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and pass a physical medi cal exam and drug test. No phone calls pleasev The Tribal Council plans to allocate $800.00, to each member through the Member Benefit Program for the year 2006. All members 21 years of age on or before the date of distribution are eligible for withdrawing. For all members under the age of 21, the distribution will be deposited into the trust accounts. For those eligible, withdrawal requests received in our offices by June 16, 2006, will generate checks to be mailed on June 30, 2006. Withdrawal requests post marked June 16, 2006, or later WILL NOT meet the deadline, they must be in our offices by June 16, 2006. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL CHECKS BE PICKED UP AT THE OFFICES. Checks will be mailed to the address on the withdrawl form. Once the request is received, the address for the check will not be able to be changed. The address on the withdrawl form will be the official address for you, and, all other mail will also be mailed to that address. If you need the check to go to an address other than the one on the form, please go to the post office in your area and have your mail forwarded. You will be receiving a withdrawal form in the mail regarding this distribution. Also, there is a withdraw form in the Smoke Signals that you may use. This will be the only payment date for the month of June. If you have a balance in your account, you may request that on this with drawl form along with the 2006 allocation. If you choose not to make a withdrawl at this time, or miss the June 16 deadline, the next payment date will be July 15, 2006. In order to be mailed a check on July 15, 2006, you must have your application to us no later than July 3, 2006. Withrawl forms may be faxed or mailed into the offices. Due to the overwhelming amount of calls regarding verification of receiving the forms in the offices, for mail verification, you will need to mail a return receipt requested available at your local post office. They can assist you with this service. For fax verification, faxing the form will be at your own risk. The total Member Benefit Timber Distribution allocation for 2006 is $800.00 for each member. Please call the 1-800-759-4814 to receive information regarding the distribution or if you did not receive a withdrawl form, you may request one. This will be checked daily. Grand Ronde Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program The Grand Ronde Tribe is operating its own Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to assist income eligible Grand Ronde Tribal members with energy payments (utility bills, firewood, etc.), energy emergencies and weatherization (e.g. furnace repairs). Households with an adult Grand Ronde Tribal member are eligible to apply within Polk, Yamhill, Marion, Washington, Multnomah, Tillamook, and Clackamas counties. CTGR members in these counties need to contact Grand Ronde to receive assistance instead of from the community action agency in their area. Grand Ronde s program enables more CTGR members to be served than would otherwise have been possible. If you are interested in obtaining services contact Social Services at 1-800-242-8196 for energy assistance and the Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority at 503-879-2405 for weatherization. The Tribes LIHEAP program also serves all income eligible Indians on Grand Ronde Reservation or trust land. il SERVING OUR TRIBAL CHILDREN" Tribal Member Review Board Completes First year! An opportunity for YOU to be a part of making our children's lives better! The Tribal member Review Board (TMRB) of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon has completed its first year re viewing various cases of Tribal children who are in Tribal custody. In the review meetings, the board members were able to review files and reports, ask questions of the Indian Child Welfare Program case workers in charge of the case. The board members also listened to the parents, the children (when present), the foster parents, lawyers and other concerned parties. The board members are able to observe whether or not the planning for the children is in their best interests and will make recommenda tions to the program, the parents, caretakers to the judge. The TMRB needs YOU as a volunteer serving our Tribal Children.
