8 MARCH 15, 2005 Smoke Signals Myrna Jean Brickell January 27, 1939- February 27, 2005 Funeral services for Myrna Jean Brickell, formerly of Willamina, took place March 3, in the First Christian Church in Sheridan. The Rev. Dennis Morley officiated. Interment followed at Green Crest Memorial Park in Sheridan. Arrangements were through Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home. Mrs. Brickell passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2005, in Sa lem Hospital. She was 66. She was born in Salem on January 27, 1939 to Roscoe E. and Rosella C. (Leno) Langley, one of eight children. She married Bruce Brickell on September 21, 1973 and was blessed with a big family of her own. She was longtime resident of Willamina who worked for a time at the Hi-Spot Coffee Shop. She loved cooking, crocheting and spend ing time with her children. In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Ed Brickell and Chris Murrell of Sheridan, Dean Payne and Ken Brickell of Sa lem and Jay Payne of Creswell; three daughters, Lisa Fredlinburg of Gaston, Mary Brickell and Peggy Biery of Salem; two brothers, Roscoe Langley, Jr. of Blakely, Ga., and Erwin Langley of Otis; two sisters, Sanda Henny and Joan Jones of Dallas; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchilden. She was preceded in death by sons Daniel Payne and Joseph Brickell Payne and her other siblings. n "We Care" Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's call for women to take charge of their health and live healthier lives. On Friday, February 4, Registered Nurse, Shirley Walkhoff invited everyone at the Tribe to wear red for this special cause. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women today and wearing red will hopefully be a reminder to make regular visits to the doctor. ELDER ACTIVITIES D March 16 Craft Day, 10 a.m. at the Elder Craft House, lunch at the meal site. March 17 Coos Bay Elder Honor Day. Deadline to sign up is March 3 rd. For those riding the bus, it will leave Grand Ronde at 10 a.m. The bus will return through Junc tion City and stop for the Daffodil Festival. OS The Natural Resources Department of The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, in cooperation with Oregon Youth Conservation Corps, seeks two youth crew leaders and 14 youth crew members for its Sum mer Youth Crew program. These positions are designed and funded for the purpose of providing enhanced opportunities for youth andor students. Youth Crew Leader F & W Intern $10.50-$13.00hour. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Approximately 14 weeks, starting June 10, 2005 (flexible) Duties: Supervise and provide leadership to a seven-person sum mer youth work crew for eight weeks and assist the Fish and Wildlife Department for four to six weeks. Projects may include stream and riparian restorationenhancement, trail and park maintenance and construction, Native vegetation plantings, habitat enhancement moni toring, and other natural resource and community projects. Qualifications: Desire to work with youth and in natural resources. Must be in good physical condition and be able to work in rugged outdoor terrain. Experience in the proper use of hand tools. Good communication skills Requirements: Work boots, valid driver's license, safe driving record. Must successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug test. Closing date: Friday, May 20, 2005. Youth Crew Member $7.75hour Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Approximately 7 weeks, starting July 5, 2005 Duties: Work as a member of a seven-person summer youth work crew. Youth crew projects may include stream restorationenhance ment, trail and park maintenance, native tree plantings, forest in ventory work, or other natural resource and community projects. Qualifications: Must be 16-19 years of age. Must have the abil ity or experience to safely and properly use hand tools. Must be in good physical condition and be able to work in rugged outdoor ter rain. Interest or experience in natural resources related work help ful. Requirements: Furnish own work boots and successfully com plete pre-employment background check and drug test. Closing date: Friday, June 10, 2005.
