Spirit Mountain Gaming, Inc. invites dynamic business orientated individuals to apply to the Spirit Mountain Gaming, Inc. Board of Directors. There are two available board positions open, one for a qualified Tribal member and one for a qualified non-Tribal individual. The SMGI board of directors is responsible to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Tribal Council and oversees fiscal account ability, budgets, policies, procedures and business operations of Spirit Mountain Casino. The SMGI Board meets twice monthly and each board member receives a stipend each month for their participation. Qualifications should include general business knowledge, expe rience in hospitalitycustomer service driven environment, ten years of experience in a responsible business position, and strong finan cial experience. Knowledge of Native American owned and oper ated organizations preferred but not mandatory. There should also be a demonstrated ability to be responsive to the goals of the busi ness and its increasingly dynamic character with appropriate ana lytical and communication skills. Ability to pass a thorough back ground check and obtain a gaming license is necessary. Deadline to apply is Sunday, January 30, 2005. You will soon receive a survey asking you a few questions about housing needs. If we receive your completed survey by Monday, Janu ary 17, you will be eligible for a drawing to win a $100 cash prize. This survey and your responses are part of a five-year planning effort. The plan will guide housing policy and actions, such as hous ing development, assistance and housing services over the next sev eral years. Your voice is very important and will help us know our needs better. Without your voice, we will miss important informa tion and you will lose the opportunity to win some extra cash. It will only take about ten to fifteen minutes of your time. NWIHA Scholarship For Tribal Youth The Northwest Indian Housing Association (NWIHA) annually provides scholarships to Tribal youth, defined as Tribal members ages 24 years old or younger. The intent is to provide financial awards to youth for education and training programs at schools, colleges, job training organizations, sports camps or other worth while organizations. Basketweaving Classes Begin Again Following the success of the Circle of Weaving held in October, the first in a series of basketweaving classes will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2005 and Sunday, January 30, 2005. We will be leaving from the Bailey House on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 10 a.m. to gather spruce roots. Please bring a sack lunch, transportation will be provided. On Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., we will be learning how to process the roots, split the roots and get ready to begin weaving with the roots. "SERVING OUR TRIBAL CHILDREN" VOLUNTEER MEMBERS WANTED This is YOUR chance to be a part of making our children's lives better! The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Or egon is beginning its own Tribal Member Review Board to periodi cally review the cases of Tribal children who are in Tribal custody and have often been placed out of their homes. In the review meetings, the Board will review files and reports, and will be able to ask questions of the Indian Child Welfare Pro gram caseworkers in charge of the case. Often, Board members also listen to the parents, the children (if old enough), the foster parents, lawyers and others concerned with the case. The Review Board members will then decide whether or not the planning for the children is in their best interests, and will make recommendations to the program, the parents, caretakers and to the Judge. The Tribal Member Review Board needs YOU as a volunteer serv ing our Tribal Children.
