AUGUST 1, 2004 Smoke Signals 11 qualifications I possess, I would like to speak the e-mails and comments concerning my health. I do have arthritis in both of my knees that does require the use of a walker. This is not something that is any way prohibits my ability to provide the quality of leadership that I person ally require of myself. Had my health been a concern I would not have chosen to run another term, I hold myself accountable for the require ments and duties that is required as an elected official. Experience is very important when choosing your candidate; I was on the first Tribal Corporation board, going on to serve on the Tribal Coun cil since the 1980's. I have seen the Tribal Council move from the depot to the manor, to the module's and currently where we are today the Governance Center. I have seen and been apart of the great transition in our Tribes past and I'm asking for your support today to continue to be a part of our Tribes future. I have worked with former chairperson 's Mark Mericer, Kathryn Harrison and currently Cheryle Kennedy, if I have learned one thing it is that our elected personnel must work as a team. Working as a team, the Tribe will continue to experience the great success that has built the program and services to what they are today. A few areas that are especially close to my heart are the Elders and our Youth. I have a great love and much respect for our Elders; it is because of them that we are here today restored as a tribe, a people, a family. I feel that they are our number one priority when making deci sions for the tribe. Currently I am on the committee that is working on the Elder assisted living facility, this has been a need for a very long time and I look forward to the day it becomes reality. Our youth repre sent the future of our Tribe, as Tribal stewards we need to provide not just the opportunity, also important and much needed is encourage ment and guidance to see that they receive the best possible education. Also, a huge concern I have is the lack of anything for the kids to do that gives them a chance to avoid using drugs, drinking or having un protected sex resulting in teen pregnancy. Are we failing our children by not providing a healthy environment, providing other things that kids will enjoy doing. Let's provide a recreation center that will provide a healthy alternative for our kids, this is a priority. There are many needs within the membership; a big one is communi cation in timely manner with full truths. Termination left many of our people without any other choice, than to move from Grand Ronde to find work to provide for their families. Even now with restoration the housing and jobs just aren't readily available for our members to move home. This has left many of our members feeling that they are not a part of the Tribe they are enrolled in. With this in mind, I am in total support of moving forward with utilizing the technology that is readily available to telecast our Tribal government meetings via the internet giving the membership access to Tribal information as it happens un censored, providing our members a chance to be on real time with the decisions and concerns of your working government, and tribal mem bers. Also, maximizing the tribal web page, giving access to online forms and applications that can be completed online with form of help commu nications like the FAQ that many sites use to speed up the information flow in a timely manner, giving a more timely access to your benefits. These are just a few reasons why I am asking for your support in this year's upcoming election. Although I am only one of nine making deci sions I have given you some things that I strongly support. I can't stress enough the importance for our members to exercise there rights and vote, making sure to ask around and casting an informed vote, giving yourself opportunity to make a difference in the future of the Tribe. In closing I would like to say thanks to all of you for supporting me in now and in the past. If elected I will do my very best to represent all of you in an Honest, Forthcoming and Experienced voice.
