Smoke Signals 13 MAY 15, 2004 w " '- Verna J. Larsen July 8, 1916 April 29, 2004 Verna Larsen, 88, of Grand Ronde, passed away on April 29 in Grand Ronde. She was born on July 8, 1916 in Grand Ronde to Lewis and Lena Norwest Riggs, Sr. She married Edward E. Larsen on June 21, 1940 in Vancouver, Washington. She was very supportive of the Grand Ronde Community Food Bank. She often purchased large quantities of canned food and vegetables for the food bank. She also made many care packages for her family. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Ronde. She loved flowers, especially roses. Her children planted a rose garden for her at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on March 15, 1964. She is survived by her sons; Eddie and Kenny of Grand Ronde and Michael of Willamina; daughters, Jeanne Larsen of McMinnville, Carol Larsen of Willamina and Susie Gilliam of Dallas; numerous grand children and great-grandchildren. Services were held in the Tribal Gym nasium. Recitation of the Rosary was at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Ronde. Margaret E. Patching January 28, 1943 April 1, 2004 Margaret E. Patching at age 61, passed away April 1, 2004 at 7:24 p.m. at the Hospice care center in Longview, Washington. She was born January 28, 1943 in Yakima, Washington to Henry S. (Hank) and Anna Marie (Norwest) Tay lor. She lived in California prior to moving to Rainier, Oregon at age fourteen to live with her sister Evelyn Stevens and brother in law Jess Stevens, there she met her lifetime mate, com panion and friend, Clarence w. (Bill) Patching who she married, August 25 1958 there they raised four daughters. She leaves behind many people who know just how kind, generous, fun, caring, devoted and loving she was. She enjoyed being a stay home mother and wife who always put her husband, children and others needs ahead of her self to the very end. She enjoyed quality time with her husband, children and grandchildren, also she enjoyed camping, cooking, gardening and her flower garden. No matter if you were family or friend of the family, mom's home was open to all. Mom was not always prepared for unexpected guest, for dinner or a long stay, yet she always managed to accommodate her house guests. She looked forward to going to yard sales with her daughters. Survivors include her Husband of 45 years, Clarence W. (Bill) Patching at home in Kelso, WA. Four daughters Tina G.M. Bastin 43 years, Debbie A. Bastin 38 years, Rhonda L. Bastin 35 years, Cassandra L. Newman 3 1 years and four grand sons William J. Patching 25 years, Jonathon W. Bastin 20 years, Brandon H. Bastin 19 years, Don C. Salsbury 18 years. Two granddaughters Casie J. Hernandez 11 years, Crystal E. Hernandez 13 years. One great grand daughter Christina E. M. Patching 7 years Three great grandsons William J. T. (Tyler) Patching 3 years, Kyle R. Patching 9 mo. and Dylon J. W. Bastin 1 year also survived by four brothers Don Taylor of Mesa AZ, Mike Ryser of Klamath Falls, OR, Gary Taylor unknown address, Charles Tay lor of Kelso, WA. Two sisters, Evelyn Stevens of Yakima, WA, Cindy last name and address unknown and life long friend Anette Matson and Nadine Ricky. She was proceeded in death by her brother Edward Taylor. Services were held on April 10, 2004 at the Columbia Funeral Chapel with Doctor James D. Springer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Longview Hospice Care Center, P.O.
