University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship The postdoctoral fellowships can be renewed for a second year. What you do is choose a UC faculty mentor you would like to work with during the fellowship year. You must finish your dissertation by the time the fellowship begins. What is important to know is that this past year, the President of the UC system committed funds to UC departments to hire UC President's postdocs in tenure-track positions. I'm not sure how long this commitment is going to last, but it's an important step to diversifying the faculty in the UC system. These fellowships started out being for underrepresented minori ties, but as a result of California state Proposition 209, the targetted audi ence was broadened. But the spirit of the original program is still being upheld as much as possible. There is a new President of the UC system as of this summer, also. The UC system has nine campuses; UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Francisco, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and a tenth one, UC Merced, in the works. We have had several NA postdocs here at UC Davis within our NAS program. Check out the following website: www.ucop.eduacadadvppfp.
