2 JULY 1, 2002 Smoke Signals j Hello, my name is Ali Holsclaw and I am the Grand Ronde Veterans' Sr. Queen for 2001 -2002. I'd like to take this time to thank a few people who have helped and supported me throughout the year. First I'd like to thank the Grand Ronde Veteran's and Color Guard for being so helpful, sup portive and nice to me. A special thank you to Marce and Sharon Norwest for being so great with my family and me. They are the best. I'd like to thank my Mom and Aunt Bonnie Tom for working so hard and my regalia and supporting me. I'd like to thank the rest of my family and friends for being so supportive and putting up with me this last year. Thank you! I would also like to thank the Eagle Beak Singers for always helping me and letting me travel with them to pow-wows and for being so encouraging. I want to thank Halona Butler and her family for helping out with ev erything and for taking me with them to powwows. I'd like to thank Emma and Claudia Leno for helping out and for offering rides to powwows. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me in one way or another through out the year. Every bit of help is appreciated by myself and my family. I look forward to representing the Tribe again; it has been a great year and a great experience. So again, thank you to everyone for helping me! Hello, my name is Halona Butler, 2001 - 2002 Grand Ronde Veterans' Jr. Queen. Thank you for the honor of representing the Grand Ronde Veterans' this year. I have had a lot of fun traveling and attending events with the Grand Ronde Color Guard and their families. They are all great and have been so good to my family and me, thank you! A very special thanks to Marce and Sharon Norwest for everything this year you are both incredible! I would also like to thank the following people: All of my parents (Micheal & Cindy, Lee & Vickie) for always making sure I was where I needed to be and my little brothers Leland, Bobby and Isaac for putting up with doing "girl" things! I love you all! Thank you to all of my Grandparents and family for working so hard on my regalia, preparing for my giveaway and for always believing in me and supporting me in the things I want to do. Thank you Ali Holsclaw and family for always making traveling more fun! Thank you to all of my family and friends for your support and encouragement I could not do all of these things without you! Joe is a Veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. It has been a great honor for Halona and Ali to represent the Grand Ronde Veterans this year. Throughout the year, many of the pow-wows they have attended have had honor dances for Veterans. Halona and Ali have been out there every time dancing in honor of all Veterans with a special place in their hearts for their "Little Grandpa!" Thank you! OS Awards Local Veteran Carl Lambert, the husband of Tribal member Betty Lambert, recently was honored with the AMVET of The Year Award and the Adjutant of the Year Award at the 2002 Oregon State Convention of AMVETS. Lambert, along with Lloyd "Bud" Abbott, helped found the local AMVETS Chapter in Willamina. "I couldn't have received these awards without the help and cooperation of the local VFW and North west Indian Veterans Association," said Lambert. "These are such great people." Letters in support of candidates will NOT be published in regular editions of the SMOKE SIGNALS. 2. Statements from candidates will be published in a special election edition of SMOKE SIGNALS, currently scheduled for July 1, 2002. 3. Letters to the editor from candidates will NOT be published during the time period from nominations to the conclusion of the Tribal Council Election. 4. Feature articles and spotlights involving candidates will be suspended during the time period from nominations to the conclusion of the Tribal Council Election.
