Halona and Ali are both great-granddaughter's of Tribal Elder Joseph
Mercier. Joe is a Veteran of the United States Army and served in World
War II. It has been a great honor for Halona and Ali to represent the
Grand Ronde Veterans this year. Throughout the year, many of the

and Ali have been out there every time dancing in honor of all Veterans
with a special place in their hearts for their "Little Grandpa!"

Awards Local Veteran Carl Lambert, the husband of Tribal member Betty Lambert,
recently was honored with the AMVET of The Year Award and the Adjutant of the Year
Award at the 2002 Oregon State Convention of AMVETS. Lambert, along with Lloyd
"Bud" Abbott, helped found the local AMVETS Chapter in Willamina. "I couldn't have
received these awards without the help and cooperation of the local VFW and North
west Indian Veterans Association," said Lambert. "These are such great people."
