Grand Ronde HeadStart Is Now Recruiting Children For The 2002-2003 School Year Recruitment runs from April through July. This announcement is for children who are 3 years old by September 1, 2002 to children who are 5 years old (pre-kindergarten) and that are income eligible. Unfortunately, if there is not enough space available we will not be servicing non-Tribal Willamina or Sheridan Head Start children. Our first day of school is Sep tember 3, 2002. Attention all High School Seniors Upcoming Graduates: The Education Division provides funding up to $100 to assist with the purchases of your graduation costs such as a cap, gown, and invi tations. In order to receive this funding please send the following in formation: A letter indicating your need for assistance. A copy of your graduation costs. Royalty To Host Visitors from Czech Republic The Grand Ronde Royalty will be hosting The Sparrows from Czech Republic on June 2 at 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Community Center. This is a group of 40 girls that are coming to learn about our Tribe and culture. They are a choir and will also be performing a small concert for us. We would like to invite anyone interested in dancing in his or her regalia to attend. We will be doing a simple Grand Entry and then have exhibition danc ing in each dance category along with an explanation of each regalia and dance category for the girls. Please come and help us welcome these girls to our Tribe and our Country. Cultural Resources To Host A Two-hour Social Memories of Our Past Monday May 27, 2002 Tribal Community Center 1 p.m. 3 p.m. The Cultural Resource department will be hosting a two-hour social to bring Tribal members and families together to share their family stories and memories from the past that have in many ways influ enced our lives today. Tribal Youth Education Sponsorship Program Youth Education Sponsorship (YE Sponsorship) program, formerly Sum mer Sponsorship, began in January 2002. YE Sponsorship is a program which provides maximum funding of $200 to enrolled Tribal members grades K-12, including home schooling one time per year to participate in school activities and extracurricular activi ties and programs. You must request an application by contacting Chris Bailey at 1-800-422-0232 or 503-879-2101. Applications must be returned completed in order to be processed. Please allow two weeks for processing. Funding is available until depleted. Please note that requesting an application does not ensure funding and does not register the student for the activity program. Summer Intern Position For Hatfield Marine Science Center Summer Intern Position: Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport, OR. One full time equivalent undergraduate Native American student needed from June 18 through September 16, 2002. The Intern can earn a stipend of $2,500 and housing will be provided if needed. Education and Science majors are encouraged to apply. Must have ability to work with people of all ages, and be physically fit for climbing and hiking. OMSI Salmon Camp OMSI Salmon Camp is looking for Native American middle school stu dents who are interested learning about the traditional role of salmon in Native American culture and how traditional ecological knowledge is ap plied to modern fisheries and science. The camp is a week long and activi ties will include learning about the life cycles of salmon and steelhead, talking with men and women in the natural resources field about their careers, rafting a river, touring a hatchery and a salmon bake. OMSI Salmon Camp Research Team OMSI is looking for Native American high school students who are in terested in the natural resources field. The camps will provide students with hands on training in a variety of career fields and access to profes sionals in those fields willing to share their knowledge and experience. Students will also learn about the many university programs and oppor tunities available to them. The two to three week programs are free to the selected participants and efforts will be made to place students into future paid jobs with research or natural resource management agencies. All students are responsible for having their grade reports sent to the Tribal Education program upon completion of each termsemester. Either make arrangements with the Registrar's Office to have the reports sent directly to the Tribal Education office or mail a copy of your grade report to the Tribal Office yourself. 2. Students please notify the Educational Program of address changes and telephone number changes. 3. If emergencies occur that affects your attendance notify the Education Program and College IMMEDIATELY. (Tribal Education Office, College Business Office, College Financial Aid Office and College Registrar's Office) 4. You must maintain 2.00 GPA and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per termsemester to be eligible for assistance. 5. Students who are placed on PROBATIONARY STATUS will not be awarded the following term until they have provided the Education Program an OFFICIAL COPY of their transcripts. Tran scripts must include the term of probation and must show successful completion of 12 credit hours earned with at least a 2.00 GPA. NO AWARD WILL BE MADE UNTIL TRANSCRIPTS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED. 6. Continuing students must file their Federal Financial Aid Forms by February 15. You must provide a copy of your application to The Education Program for filing verification. 7. All students must sign a "Release of Information" form regarding attendance, financial aid transcripts, education budgets, progress and grade reports. 8. It is your responsibility to remain in "good academic standing." If a student demonstrates an "on againoff again" pattern of being placed on PROBATIONARY STATUS, THEY WILL BE PLACED ON Probationary Status for one complete academic year. Failure to meet minimum academic requirements during this period will result in SUSPENSION. 9. Students who withdraw from school due to medical or health related reasons must obtain a statement of Verification from their physician or health care provider identifying need to with draw from school. Students must obtain a Statement of Release from their physician that identifies ability to return to school. Copies of physician's statements must be provided to the Education Program. 10. Students entering their SENIOR year are required to have a GRADUATION AUDITEVALU ATION completed Fall Term and provide a copy of the AuditEvaluation to the Tribal Education Program.
