By Justin Phillips In January 2001, our nation's capitol will be filled with the sights and sounds of a truly American cel ebration the fifty-fourth Presiden tial Inauguration the swearing in of the United States President who will lead our country into the 21st century. With nearly 2000 eligible participants throughout the country, Tribal member Kristy DeLoe is among the 400 Alumni Representa tives attending this important event. DeLoe is an alumnus of the Na tional Young Leaders Conference. As an alumna, she will share six days of activities commemorating the Presidential Inauguration in Wash ington, D.C. DeLoe will experience the spirit and excitement of the grand Inaugural Parade, as the President and Fist Lady proceed from the capi tol to the White House. DeLoe has held a garage sale and a lunch and dinner at the Holiday Christmas Bazaar to raise money for the conference tuition. The Tribe's Education department has donated $250. A senior at Willamina High School, DeLoe has been accepted to the Art Institute of Seattle next fall to study Culinary Arts. The six days of activities will con sist of presidential meetings, inaugu ral activities, and visitation of the Pentagon, National Holocaust Mu seum, the Navy Memorial, the Na ' tional Building Museum, Ford's The ater, the Lincoln Museum and sev eral other sites. DeLoe will attend the swearing in of the new president on Saturday, January 20, 2001. DeLoe's parents are Lloyd DeLoe and Tribal member Penny DeLoe of Willamina. They would like to say that they are very proud of her. Kristy's grandmother is Val Grout. , ! Kristy DeLoe, a 17 year-old senior at Willamina High School, will spend six days in the nation's capitol for the Presidential Inauguration. DeLoe, a past Sr. Miss Grand Ronde (1999-00), will attend college at the Art Institute of Seattle next fall. Participating In the .Royalty Court Is an excellent chance for young Tribal women to represent the Tribe in a positive way. It does require com mitment and time, but is a tremendous honor. There will be dance, proto col, craft, and speaking classes that will help prepare yourself to be on Royalty. Any young lady Who would like to participate In Royalty to gain experi ence may as a Princess, and not compete this year for a Queen position. We encourage any interested young lady who Is a Tribal member, between the ages of 5 and 21 to join us. Participants must be an enrolled member of the Grand Ronde Tribe, be alcohol and drug free, be childless and never married. If school age, must be attending school (private or public) full-time. Girls must be within the following age categories by January 15, 2001: Miss Tiny Tot - 5-8 years of age Junior Miss Grand Ronde 9-14 years of age Senior Miss Grand Ronde 15-18 years of age Miss Grand Ronde - 19-21 years of age Participants must have their own regalia. It is not the responsibility of the Royalty Board, Tribal Council, or any other Tribal program to provide. ." Members of the Royalty Court are not paid positions. Although, the chosen Queens and Princesses will receive motel fees and a set amount for travel expenses for attending required events. For all fund-raisers and ac tivities that Royalty Is involved in, the court and their families or sponsors are required to participate. All the members on the Royalty Court must show good judgement by not participating In any activities that could bring adverse publicity to themselves or the Tribe, All members of Royalty must comply with the Royalty guidelines and the Royalty agreement.
