Shaw's taxi service is the first of its kind in the area. too g(B(TOQ(3(3 TRIBAL MEMBER OWNER: Leroy Shaw BUSINESS TYPE AND SERVICES: Snow Bird's Taxi Service LOCATION: Aumsville, Oregon HOW LONG IN BUSINESS? Started the end of October. OTHER JOBS AND BUSINESS EXPERIENCE: "I was a truck driver, but I decided to get off the highway and start my own business," said Shaw. Shaw also gained experience working for a taxi service in Astoria. REASON FOR STARTING A BUSINESS? "I have worked for 30 years for somebody else, so I figured it was about time to do something for myself," said Shaw. GETTING STARTED: "Going through the process of getting the business started was the hard part," said Shaw. The insurance was the most expen sive thing I have ever known it was almost $10,000." Shaw said he went through Stayton Ford to get his two business vehicles. Shaw has a 1997 Dodge Caravan and a 1998 Mercury Sable. Stayton Printing Shop did Shaw's car door signs and the sign in front of his house. Shaw's taxi service is licensed with the State of Oregon through Marion County. REWARDS OF OWNING A BUSINESS: "My reward is helping the people out here that need help," said Shaw. "I pick them up and take them where they need to go and get them there safe. I help people that are broken down on the highway if I can't help them or take them some where then, I can call someone and get some help out there." WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU UKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? This is the first time Aumsville, Oregon has ever had a taxi service out here," said Shaw. "Stayton, Turner, Sublimity have never had a taxi service in this area, so my wife Kathy and I started this business." "They (customers) can call our toll free number and we will take them right to the front door," said Shaw of his frequent trips to Spirit Mountain Casino. "We run 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Shaw. "If any tribal members are interested in the taxi business, we are taking applications."
