APRIL 1, 1999 3 Members can join credit union March 13, 1999 To the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde: I am pleased to congratulate the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Spirit Mountain Com munity Fund on the dedication of ' the Native American gallery in the Hallie Ford Museum of Art. The Hallie Ford Museum has quickly established itself as the ma jor cultural attraction in Salem and the mid-Willamette Valley, and the Grand Ronde gallery will provide an exceptional opportunity for the Tribes to share their traditional cul ture and current artistic endeavors with visitors from the area and be yond. I trust this beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and my alma mater, Wil lamette University. I wish you much success in this partnership. With best regards, Mark O.Hatfield Last year at the tribal commu nity meetings held in cities all over Oregon, the mem bership expressed an interest in get ting the Tribe to join up with a credit union. Well, the wait is over. Marion and Polk Schools Credit Union (MaPS) is delighted to wel come the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to its family! All tribal members and tribal employees are now automatically eligible to join MaPS. And when you become a MaPS member, your immediate fam ily spouses, parents grandparents, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters are all eligible too! Joining is easy. MaPS will waive the membership fee and you only need to keep $5 in your savings ac count to keep your membership ac tive. MaPS will be in Grand Ronde soon, and will be able to sign you up on the spot. April 11: MaPS representatives will be speaking briefly at the Gen eral Council meeting, and will be available after the meeting to an swer questions and sign up new members. April 13: MaPS will be offering an "employee coffee break" at the tribal office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions about MaPS Credit Union and sign people up for membership. April 20: MaPS will host an after hours welcome party at their West Salem Branch on 1137 Edgewater Street N.W. Once again, tribal mem bers can join and ask questions. Also wireless services (cell phone) repre sentatives will be able to assist you. This evening will give members a chance to get acquainted with the MaPS branch nearest to Grand Ronde. Leon "Chip" Tom moved, Reyn Leno seconded to approve the previ ous February 17 Tribal Council meeting minutes as submitted. Mo tion carried. Tribal Government, Management and Budget Subcommittee ENROLLMENT Consideration of Emergency Enrollment resolution: The Enrollment staff and committee have determined a newborn to be eligible for enrollment and due to a medical emergency, both are recom mending an emergency enrollment in this case. Ed Pearsall moved, Bob Mercier seconded to adopt Resolu tion No. 016-99 approving the emergency enrollment for Jasmine St. Claire as recommended by the Enrollment Committee and staff. Motion carried 7-0-0. Adjusted Blood Quantum resolution: The Enrollment Com mittee recommends the total blood quantum be adjusted for members number 3986, 4404, and 4405. Ed Pearsall moved, Bob Haller seconded to adopt Resolution No. 017-99 ap proving the total blood quantum adjustments as recommended for the above mentioned members. Motion carried 7-0-0. Name Changes resolution: Ed Pearsall moved, Ed Larsen sec onded to approve the name changes for 76 members be adopting Reso lution No. 018-99. Motion carried 7-0-0. Relinquishments resolu tion: Bob Mercier moved, Chip Tbm seconded to accept the voluntary re linquishments for members number 2883, 328, and 327 by adopting Resolution No. 019-99. Motion carried 7-0-0. GRAND RONDE TRIBAL HOUSING AUTHORITY 1999 Housing Policy and Pro cedures resolution: After Linda Layden's review of the pur pose and guidelines for the Policy and Procedures, Ed Pearsall moved, Bob Haller seconded to adopt Reso lution No. 020-99 approving the Housing Policy and Procedures as submitted. Motion carried 7-0-0. Additional Emergency Assis tance Grant resolution: Linda Layden, Housing Program Execu tive Director, explained why this re quest in the amount of $1,675 was being made. This amount is in ad dition to the original amount pro vided. Reyn Leno moved, Ed Larsen seconded to adopt Resolu tion No. 021-99 approving the re quest for the additional $1,675. Mo tion carried 7-0-0. Legislative Subcommittee CULTURE AND HERITAGE PROGRAM Second Annual Chinook Jar gon Conference: Lisa Watt, Cul ture and Heritage Executive Direc tor, reviewed the proposed confer ence activities and noted that the conference would be scheduled for August 13-15, 1999 with Council approval. Reyn Leno moved, Bob Mercier seconded to approve the re- quest. Motion carried. Arvol Looking Horse Lecture: The Culture and Heritage program requested Council approval to sup port the lecture by Dr. Looking Horse in mid-May, 1999. If approved a $1,000 donation will be made to as sist with the travel expenses and speaker's fee. Reyn Leno moved, Chip Tom seconded to approve the request. Motion carried. Northwest Anthropologists Association annual meeting pre sentation: Consensus was given to approve the request by the Cul tural and Heritage program to make a presentation at the NW Anthro pologists Association annual meeting in Newport, Oregon in April. Resources Subcommittee Big Grouse Combination Log ging Unit resolution: Mark Mercier moved, Ed Larsen seconded to adopt Resolution No. 022-99 ap proving the proposed Big Grouse Combination Logging Unit as re quested. Motion carried 7-0-0. Other Business Chris Leno asked Council to ap prove the DO J (Department of Jus tice) STOP Violence Against Indian Women continuation grant to re main in effect until the completion or termination of the program.
