March 13, 1999
To the Confederated Tribes of the
Grand Ronde:
I am pleased to congratulate the
Confederated Tribes of the Grand
Ronde and the Spirit Mountain Com
munity Fund on the dedication of '
the Native American gallery in the
Hallie Ford Museum of Art.
The Hallie Ford Museum has
quickly established itself as the ma
jor cultural attraction in Salem and
the mid-Willamette Valley, and the
Grand Ronde gallery will provide an
exceptional opportunity for the
Tribes to share their traditional cul
ture and current artistic endeavors
with visitors from the area and be
yond. I trust this beginning of a long
and fruitful collaboration between
the Confederated Tribes of the Grand
Ronde and my alma mater, Wil
lamette University. I wish you much
success in this partnership.
With best regards,
Mark O.Hatfield
