Education announces record number of GED recipients By Gayla Tulensru, Program Coordinator I hope we don't sound like egotists in adult edu cation, but quite frankly, we have had a great year. On the GED level, we offered four terms of local GED instruction. Overall, we have had nine people receive their GED certificates and ten other tribal members are in the official testing phases of their GED studies. To date, over 30 tribal members have taken advantage of our job enhancement and skill development components and we have offered employment and education counseling to a record number of clients. We are also getting more re quests for high school completion, and life skill development classes. Requests for tutoring (at adult levels) has also increased, although we would hope to see more people take advantage of this service. There has also been significant growth in commu nity education and we have offered a local Parent ing and Anger Management class as well as a Moc casin and Drum making class. By request, we also offered the drum and moccasin making classes in Eugene and Portland where tribal members ex pressed great appreciation for the classes coming to their locations. The off-site classes also offered a wonderful opportunity for tribal members to meet one another and discuss other program services with the adult education coordinator. . The Adult Education Program offers CTGR , members a wide range of services which include: ...'Bus passes for travel to GED classes.. Fees for GED test tuition and required supplies. Fees for classes which develop skills such as writing and math. Fees for classes, seminars and workshops which improve job skills and opportunities. Fees for self improvement classes or classes which help develop life skills. To be eligible for services, a person must be at least 16 years of age, a member of the Grand Ronde Tribe, and have a completed Adult Education Ap plication on file. You may request an application or schedule an appointment by writing or calling the Adult Education Program at 1-8OO-422-0232 ext: 2282.
