Sam Ilenny, Business Development Specialist for the Tribe, will be travelling to Santa Fe, New Mexico this month to meet with representatives of the Santa Fe Indian Market, which began almost 78 years ago and is the oldest Native American Arts and Crafts market in the United States, and features more than 1 ,200 artists. Sponsored in part by the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATM), Sam and other attendees will be meeting with the director of Southwest American Indian Art (SWAIA) to discuss problems associated with promoting Native arts and crafts and networking with other business representatives from different tribes. The Song Basket Marketplace, which opened in June, was Sam's idea. As a business development specialist, she works with many artists, which is where Sam's passion lies. Song Basket is open daily, and Sam encourages all artists to par ticipate. "We are interested in the work of Grand Ronde tribal members as well as other artists in the community,'' she said. "Art is not discriminating.'' Sam said she hopes the trip to Santa Fe will heighten her knowledge of marketing techniques and allow her to make some valuable contacts in the arts and crafts community. "I foresee this trip to be an opportunity to gain some very valuable information," she said. A sample of consignment items displayed at Song Basket Marketplace , , , . . u n u uvk L L. ! J.
