Small Business sponsors business development classes The Small Business Development Division of the Tribe and ONABEN (Oregon Native American Busi ness and Entrepreneurial Network) is sponsoring two very informative business development classes this fall. All tribal members interested in owning and operating their own business are encouraged to sign up. HOW TO START A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS This class helps avoid costly potential mistakes of a business start-up. It provides the framework for suc cessful business start-up by assisting students in a bank able business plan and training them on how to prepare a successful application for financing. The class is held weekly for 10 weeks. SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT Small Business Management is a year-long practicum in which advanced business skills are developed. Par ticipants get help solving real-life problems encoun tered as their businesses grow, while creating a net work for forming alliances within the Indian business community. The class meets monthly for 12 months. Sam Henny is re searching the idea to display artwork in tribal offices and ro tate the displays to highlight as many artists as possible. Sam Henny Details have to be worked out, but Sam hopes to have artwork displayed by the first part of this month. All artists and crafters should give Sam a call to re ceive a questionnaire and to have their name placed on the Small Business mailing list. You can reach her at 879-2487. (When dialing the 1 800 number, ask for extension 2487.) Come use the Small Business Information Center The Small Business Information Center (BIC) is now open and ready for use. The extensive library of busi ness plans covers everything from "Ad Agency" to "Win dow Washing Service". These plans are available and very user-friendly. The information is clear, concise, and covers all aspects of organizing a new business idea. If you have an idea for a business, contact SBD to find out if there is a plan in the library. The business plans cannot be checked out, but you are welcome to copy the information. The BIC is open to anyone needing research material on small business enterprises. Community Meetings to help answer business questions Small Business Development has scheduled a series of community meetings in different locations through out Oregon in order to introduce tribal members to staff and services provided by the SBD division. Meetings have been held in Salem and Eugene, and will be held in Bend and Portland this month. If you are a tribal mem ber who is interested in knowing more about develop ing your business or idea, please feel welcome to at tend. Small Business staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. As always, you can con tact a staff member at the tribal offices by calling 1-800-422-0232. The Portland meeting will be held on October 12 at the Oregon Native American Business and Entrepreneur ial Network (ONABEN) office at 520 S.W. 6th Avenue, Suite 914 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The meeting in Bend will be held on October 23 at Central Oregon Community College, Boyle Education Center, Room 155, from 7-9:30 p.m. Please attend!
