April 5, 1995 Page 3 Tribal Life Smoke Signals Edna L. Bobb Ray Edna L. Bobb Raya, 73 of Toppenish, WA., passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 1995 at the Providence Hospital in Toppenish. She was born in Grand Ronde, OR. the daughter of Wilson and Anne (Thompson) Bobb, Sr. Edna attended Chemawa Indian School in Salem, OR. She went on to Haskell Junior College and received her A. A. degree from Big Ben Junior College. She entered Gonzaga University and then re ceived her degree in Business Ad ministration from Eastern Wash ington University at Cheney. Af ter her graduation she continued to work at the University. Edna served on the Lineal Board for the Cowlitz Tribe Eastern Side for 1 2 years. She has lived in the Valley for about 32 years. While here she was very active and a strong ad vocate of Indian issues for both the Yakama and the Cowlitz Indian Nations. She was a story teller for Camp Chapporal and represented the area for Senior Citizens of the Yakama Indian Nation at many functions, She was an enrolled member of the Yakama Indian Nation and will be missed a great deal by her people. Edna enjoyed playing bingo and could hardly wait until the Yakama Nation got their casino. She is survived by three sons, Joseph G. and Phillip T. Raya both of Toppenish, WA. and Sequoia B. Raya of Salem, OR.; four Royalty information By Camille Mercier For all girls interested in running for Honorary, Junior, and Senior Miss Grand Ronde, there will be a mandatory meeting on April 20 at the Tribal Community Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. If you or your child is interested, you both must attend this informal meeting to register. There will be no late registration, so both sponsorparent and child must be present. Age categories are as follows; 6-10 for Honorary Court; 1 1-14 for Junior; and 15-19 for Senior. This meeting will be an excellent way for you to ask questions about what to expect during the next few months, and to meet the Pow-wow Committee. Miss Grand Ronde 1 994 will be there to meet you and share her expe riences in running, and representing the Tribe throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you on April 20. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Anne Bobb; one daughter, Marcella Raya-De La Garza; four brothers, Joseph Gale, Russell Bobb, Emmerson Bobb and Wilson Bobb, Jr.; one sister, Lavine Valdez. Recitation of the Rosary was on Thursday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Toppenish, WA. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Friday, March 1 7, at 8: 1 5 a.m. at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish, WA. Burial and concluding services were in the Grand Ronde Tribal Cemetery in Grand Ronde, OR. on March 17, at 3:30 p.m. Tribal news and announcements LOOK WHO'S 10!!! They named him Kelly James Hogan. He weighed 5 lbs. 4 oz. and was 18 inches long. The grandparents are Jim and Wilma Butler of Monmouth, and Jim and Jerry Hogan of Salem. iir7 Natural Resources has moved To make room for Spirit Mountain Resort on Highway 1 8, the Natural Resources Division of the Tribe has been relocated.
