You can experience the pride of representing your tribe in meetings, PowWows, and parades. The tribe is looking forward to working with you because of your sincere interest in your heritage. The Junior and Senior Miss Grand Ronde of 1992-93 will be chosen from the entries which meet the following requirements and would like to serve the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde as a princessspokesperson, plear : fill our the accompanying application and return it to us. Good Luck! 1. Must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. 2. Junior Court ages are 11-14 years of age, Senior Court ages are 15-19 years of age. 3. Must be single, childless, and never married. 4. If school age, must be attending school, and submit a letter of verification of attendance .5. Must be able to attend all required events, (PowWows, parades, organizational meetings, and fundraisers.)Unless pre-arranged with the Committee, no more than three unexcused absences of required functions. 6. Must be willing to speak in front of large groups. 7. Willing, by your behavior, to represent with pride, your heritage. ' 8. Must be drug and alcohol free. Any misconduct will result in immediate disqualification. 9. You will be expected to show good judgement, in that you would not participate in any activities that would bring any adverse publicity to the tribe, while you are a 10. Must be willing to dance. If you do not know how, assistance will be offered. 11. You must have appropriate Regalia for all events. 12. You must furnish your own Regalia at your own expense, and make at least one thing for your Regalia. 13. You must be fully dedicated and committed to representing the tribe at all times. 14. Each contestant must have a parentguardian or sponsor who will also be required to attend , participate, and be dedicated to represent the tribe in a positive manner. 15. One written warning will be issued for any of the above mentioned requirements that are violated. Any others will come before the PowWow Committee for review. Tribal Pow-Wow -August 14, 15, &16 The Grand Ronde annual Pow-wow is scheduled for August 14, 15 & 16, 1992. The pow-wow will be held on tribal lands this year, next to the tribal community center building. COMMUNITY ENCOURAGER'S REPORT Thanks to all of you who participated in the community-wide meeting and in developing the prioritized list of the health care services for the clinic that will be built on the homelands. Approximately 78 people participated in the planning session. I know your time is very valuable. We appreciate your willingness to give to this project. Also, a special "thank you" to the community health council for all the work you have put in to make this meeting possible. It could not have happened without you. Next moth's SMOKE SIGNALS will have a priority list from the meeting on June 22, 1992 in the council chambers. For those of you in a focus group, please give as much input from our meetings as you can. Your help is still needed for the decisions left to be made .
