Smoke Signals May 1992 Page 8 TITLE: Newsletter Director REPORTS TO: Program Operations Manager SALARY: $16,000-$19,000 annual salary CLOSING DATE: May 8, 1992 RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responsible for gathering news and information, layout and design, and distribution of the tribe's monthly newsletter, as well as flyers, bro chures and other tribal publications when necessary. DUTIES: -Coordinates planning, layout and design, editing and distribution of monthly and special edition of tribal newsletter. -Writes stories and articles, and takes photographs for tribal newsletter. -Provides reports as required to Tribal Council. -Other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: -Must have high school diploma or GED. -Two years college in journalism or related area, or three years direct work experi ence in writing, editing, photography and layout and design areas (provide samples of work). -Work experience with computers helpful, including Wordperfect and Pagemaker software. -Ability to maintain an amiable working relationship with coworkers, tribal commu nity and general public. -Demonstrable writing skills. -Demonstrable oral skills. -Must have valid Oregon Driver's license. -Must be willing to travel. -Must be willing to work flexible hours; andor weekends. -TribalIndian preference applied. POSITION: Timber CruiserAppraiser SALARY: $20,000-$28,000 Regular full-time ' REPORTS TO: Natural Resources Division Manager CLOSING DATE: May 29, 1992 DUTIES: -Timber stand appraisals which includes field inventory work and office analysis to determine valuation and investment potential. -To assist the forestry staff in pre-sales, sales, silvicultural activities, fire protection, slash burning, and other forestry related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: -Associcates Degree in Forest Technology and five years experience in related forest technology work. Two years must be in timber cruising and appraisal work. -Must have valid Oregon Driver's license. -Must be in good physical condition; be able to ascend and descend steep slopes. -Must be able to travel overnight. -TribalIndian preference applies. Oregon Employment Division sends Representative Cliff Herrmann will be working with knowledge and ability to be flexible to the Confederated Tribes of G rand Ronde with employment opportunities. He will be in Grand Ronde every other Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with local job listings. No appointments will be necessary, just drop in. He will have State of Oregon Employment Division applications for service, so you can register with the State Employment Division, which will help you with your job search. Cliff is a Veteran Representative with the Employment Division and has worked with the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and the Native American Veter ans population for three years in the Portland metro area. He has a unique meet changing work situations and clients needs. The services that are provided are job placement, job development, resume guidance and assistance, labor market information and individual interviews to assist with career guidance andor vocational information. For veterans there is a networking and referral service available to other agencies and community resources for supportive services in the way of V A. medical benefits, training programs, and school benefits. There is also resource assistance for lodging, gas, food, etc. So come on down and check it out. JOBS Program and Services WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Tribal members who are applicants or recipients of AFDC assistance and reside in the tribal six county service area. The service area includes the counties of Tillamook, Washington, Multnomah, Yamhill, Polk and Marion. HOW DO YOU BECOME A PARTICIPANT IN THE GRAND RONDE TRIBAL JOBS PROGRAM? Tell your AFDC caseworker that you are a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. -Your caseworker will notify the Grand Ronde Tribal JOBS Program. -The Tribal JOBS coordinator will then contact you for an initial intake to determine if you are eligible for services. -If you are determined to be eligible for services, you will be asked to partici pate in a comprehensive assessment to determine your skills and needs. An Employment Plan will be developed and implemented to work towards getting you, and eligible family members, employed and to become self-sufficient. Support services will be provided as necessary and in accordance with pro gram guidelines. JOBS PROGRAM COMPONENTS The Tribal JOBS Program will assist you in getting the following types of help: Education Assistance: a) High School Education or High School Equivalency b) Basic and remedial education to provide individuals with a basic literacy level. c) Education in English proficiency. Job Skills Training: -Vocational Training Job Readiness Activities: Activities geared to prepare the participant for workplace expectations. Job Development and Job Placement Activities: a) Identifying and locating labor market opportunities. b) Marketing participants c) Securing a job COORDINATION State of Oregon (Title IV-A Agency) The Adult and Family Services Division is responsible for support services for child care while you are a participant in the Tribal JOBS Progam. Grand Ronde Tribal JOBS Program -The Tribal JOBS Program will provide coordination and referral with other appropriate agencies, such as the JTPA agency and Tribal Education Program -JTPA Agency referral may include: a) Job search assistance b )Classroom training programs c) Work experience program activities d) On the job training -Tribal Education Program referrals may include: a) Johnson O'Malley b) Adult Vocational Training c) Higher Education d) Adult Education -Other Agencies as appropriate.
