1 PAGE 3 FOR YOUR INFORMATION ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE WORKSHOP The Tribal Health Department is presenting a workshop on alcohol and substance abuse on April 17. 1987 from 9:00 - 4:00. The lo cation for the workshop will be announced later. The guest pre sentor will be Gene Thin Elk from Vermillion, South Dakota. The workshop will focus on the issue of chemical dependency to wellness. Most of us have been affected by alchohol or sub stance abuse by some way in our lives whether it has been par ent, child, or other relative. . This workshop is being presented as part of a course that is given by Medicine Wheel Inc. and is designed to provide awareness through relevant clinical based materials addressing the spe cific needs of the Native Ameri can chemically dependent. CONTRACT HEALTH The following is a list of medi cal priorities set by the Indian Health Service which the Con tract Health program staff uses to provide services to eligible members : Priority 1: Urgent and emer gent hospital care - care that f must be done within 30 days to I preserve life, limb or organ. f I Priority 2: Non-emergent hos I pital andor outpatient care that is needed within 30 to 60 days but enough time during which alternate resources can be evaluated. Priority 3: Elective hospital andor outpatient care that can be safely deferred for more than 60 days . Priority 4: Luxury procedures such as cosmetic surgery. The majority of services pro vided through our CHS program fall within Priorities 1 and 2. Health care determined to be Priorities 3 and 4 are deferred. A deferred services log is kept and evaluated when and if de ferred monies become available. So of the types of requested services currently on our de ferred list include: - Eyeglasses -Various Dental and Ortho dontic Procedures - gold crowns, dentures, root canals, braces, some types of extractions. -Organ Transplants -Tons i 1 lectomles -Mole Removals If you have any questions con cerning the CHS program, please feel free to call at 1-800-422-0232. Clinics are held every Wednesday and one Saturday of each month. Bette Seagren, Nurse Practioner, will answer your questions and help you with your total health care. We offer family planning, immunizations, well child care, physical exams, school exams, school physicals, minor emergen cies, women. s problems and hypertension monitoring. If you would like to take advan tage of any of these services please call 879-5211 to make an appointment. There is no charge to tribal members that have ap plied and been approved for health care services. Health care applications are available by calling or writing to the Tribal Health Department, P.O. DEFINITION OF AN ADULT (LEGAL AGE) The general age of majority in Oregon is 18 years (O.R.S. 109.510) except for married per sons, who attain majority when they are married according to law. However, a special provi sion (O.R.S. 109.640) allows a minor 15 or older to consent to hospital care, medical or surgi cal diagnosis and treatment by a physician and dental or surgical diagnosis or treatment by a den tist without the consent of par ent or guardian. MINOR CONSENT Treatment without parental con sent. a. Physicians may provide birth control information and services to persons of any age without parental consent. O.R.S. 109.640. b. A minor 12 years of age or older who may have come into contact with any venereal dis ease may give consent to the furnishing of hospital, medical or surgical care related to the diagnosis or. treatment of such disease. O.R.S. 109.610. c. A minor 15 years of age or older may consent to hospital care, medical or surgical diag nosis or treatment, termination of pregnancy, or dental care without parental consent.
