Notes from the Chair (Continued) HAVE AN INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC MEETING ON THE 18TH OF JUNE 1986, AT THE WILLAMINA VFW HALL. IN WILLAMINA, OR. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 7:00 P.M. AND IS TO END AT 11:00 P.M. I AM ONCE AGAIN APPEALING TO EACH ONE OF YOU TRIBAL MEMBERS, TO ATTEND THIS VERY IMPORTANT MEETING AND PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, AS THE TRIBAL COUNCIL IS DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO GET THE RESERVATION PLAN WRAPPED UP. NOW THE TRIBAL COUNCIL DESPERATELY NEEDS ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT! EVEN THOUGH THIS MEETING BEGINS AT 7:00 P.M. WE SUGGEST YOU BE THERE BY 6:30 P.M. TO BE ASSURED OF SEATING SINCE SPACE IS LIMITED. IN PAST GENERAL COUNCIL MEETINGS MEMBERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF WRITING LETTERS OF SUPPORT TO SOME LOCAL NEWSPAPERS IN THE COMMUNITY, AND NOT SEEING THEM PUBLISHED. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU TO WRITE MORE LETTERS OF SUPPORT. IF YOU WISH TO WRITE A LETTER OF SUPPORT TO ANY NEWSPAPER, PLEASE MAIL YOUR LETTERS TO THE GRAND RONDE TRIBAL OFFICE, P.O. BOX 38, GRAND RONDE, OR 97347. WE WILL IN TURN MAIL THEM TO THE NEWSPAPER OF YOUR CHOICE. THE REASON FOR THIS IS WE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE COPIES OF THE SUPPORT LETTERS FOR OUR FILES. BEST WISHES, MARK MERCIER General Manager's Report The Council has authorized the start up of the Social Services program. This is a BIA funded contract program designed to provide counseling and family assistance to members. The program does not provide financial payments but coordination with state and federal programs. The program also has responsibility for the Indian Child Welfare Act. The Council believes this program will require more than one position. We will be advertising these positions as soon as all clearances are received . USDA FOOD PROGRAM DISTRIBUTION DATES: (Please note time changes) Salem June 13 9:00 - 12:00 1:00 - 4:43 All Food Program Clients Please remember to keep appointments, dates and time. Try to be prompt. We at the distribution site strive to serve each family quickly and efficiently and running as smoothly as possible. If you know you will not be able to keep your appointment, please call as soon as possible to reschedule another time and date (Siletz - 444-2532 ext. 34 toll free -1-800-922-1399, Salem - 393-5182). Please remember to bring boxes and any recipes that you would like to share. The Availability of the USDA food program to Grand Ronde Tribal members is contingent upon the ability of Grand Ronde members assisting In the unloading of food trucks when they come Into Salem, and assisting in the boxing and distribution of foods.
