JOHN WEDDEL RETIRES FROM BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS AFTER 26 YEARS The Grand Ronde's were well-represented at the Retirement Dinner honoring John Weddel, November 29, 1984, at the Portland, OR's Thunderbird "Motor Inn, Those attending were! Mark & Sally Mercier, Jess & Candy Robertson, Marie Schmidt, Pat Gray, and Kathryn Harrison, as well as a lujst of about one hundred O-00) who represented other Tribes in the Northwest area, and other .friends of John and Marge Weddel' s from such locations as far away as Washington, D,C,and Oklahoma, Entertainment of the evening ranged from a hilarious skit re. Enrollment) a belly-dancer, introductions of other Retirees from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, to presentations by various speakers praising the honored guestjand the gifts bestowed on him for his accomplishments. The Grand Ronde Interim Council Chairperson, Kathryn Harrison, thanked him 'for his interest and assistance with enrollment and also, pre sented him with a beautiful beaded buckle on behalf of the Grand Ronde Tribe, It matched the beaded cap that had been given to him at the Restoration celebration here in Grand Ronde, OR, on October 6, 1984, , , Even though he is retired now, John Weddel has graciously offered to spend time here with the Grand Ronde's to assist in any .way. he .carw '
