I ’ve helped coordinate the event for the past sev eral years and wanted to acknow ledge the hard w ork o f all the vo lu n teers w ho make it hap pen. Thank you to: T he H ealth and H u m an Services Prevention Programs for funding the fo o d ; th e E d u c a tio n / JO M Committee for han dling backpacks and sup plies; Tribal Council for the paper products; the Community G arden for the com ; and the school district for providing t- shirts for our K-8 Acad em y kids. We serv ed nearly 1,200 p lates o f food! I w ant to recognize Jazm ine and Lisa Ike- L opez, TJ Foltz, S cott K alam a an d L eig h to n P e n n in g to n . T h ey packed all the food and su p p lies - fro m W arm Springs M arket to the school. We learned a lo t and now have b etter understanding o f the tradi tional Native ways,' , We w ere h u m b led an d honored by her going out for the huckleberries, going com pletely out o f her way for us. A thank-you and thank you. You can’t imagine how much th at m eans to us. A nd we w ere h ap p y to see all the liftin g songs to help o u r “Bro” on his journey. The cooks for the funeral did an excellent job. Max and Kimike, Frankie and Cassie Rhoan, thanks for your hard work, I would like to say thanks to berries, roots and salmon,, so plentiful that people got to take some home. Please do n ot feel left out if I forgot someone. Please drop me a line as I ’m going to have more memory cards finished up soon. Please keep his memory o f love alive, by sharing a guests w ho came. The next publication comes out Wednesday, Oct. 1. Prevention Walk Warm Springs Community Counseling hosted-the Suicide Prevention Walk on Wednes day o f last week. A bout 80 people attended. Suicide rates are m o re th a n d o u b le fo r N a tiv e A m e ric a n s , a n d N a tiv e teens experience the highest rate o f suicide o f any p o p u lation gtoup in the U nited States. T he Prevention Walk last w eek was at the Com m unity C en ter, w here th ere w ere speakers an d in fo rm a tio n o n su ic id e p r e v e n tio n . Carlos Calica shared his own experience w ith th e loss o f classmates, friends and fam ily to suicide. It was World Suicide P re v en tio n D ay last W ednes day, Sept. 10.
