T he N ew M exico State Aggies were playing Chicago State. Abby, a 6-1 sophomore, plays guard for the Aggies. In the opening minutes o f the hom e game against Chi cago State, Abby hit a long 3- point shot, which proved to be the first o f many. By the end o f the evening she had made eleven 3-point ers, sco rin g 36 p o in ts — breaking the school record and the Western Athletic Con ference record. This also tied the NCAA Ipivision I Women’s record, i Abby is a 2011 graduate o f Madras High School. H er father is James Scott. For the 2013-14 season, through last week, Scott was averaging 26.3 m inutes p e r game, third m ost on the team. New Mexico State University athletic department NMS Aggies guard Abby Scott. Schimmel having great senior year Shoni Schimmel is hav ing another great year with the Louisville Cardinals. T h e team is cu rren tly ranked no. 3 in the nation. T h e ir only re c e n t loss came against Connecticut, the no. 1 team in the coun try. L ouisville plays a rematch against Connecti cut on March 3. Shoni, 5-9 guard, is a sen io r th is year. The evening will feature a staff versus students basket- ball game. There will also be food for sale. Proceeds will be used to replace outdated gym equipment. Schimmel, originally from Mission, was averaging 17.6 points per game, hitting 39.6 percent o f her 3-point shots and making 81.5 percent o f her free throws— all team highs. She is in contention for the Wooden Award, the other player o f the year recognition in college bas ketball. Louisville plays this evening, Feb. 19, against Houston; and oh Feb. 23 against Rutgers.
