The celebration and powwow will be held at the Simnasho Longhouse, starting at 6 p.m. on N ew Year’s Eve. T here will be a potluck dinner, followed by Washut at 7 p.m. T he traditional powwow, social dancing and games will go until midnight. Columbia River Treaty (Note: Earlier this month the U.S. Entity delivered its f i nal recommendation, the U.S. Entity Regional Recom m en dation for the Future o f the C olum bia River Treaty af ter 2024, to the U.S. Depart ment of State. The Department of State will use this document to begin a fed eralpolicy review process to deter mine whether to proceed with a Treaty modernisation effort with Canada. Paul Lumley, of the Yakama Nation, is the executive director o f the Columbia River Inter- Tribal Fish Commission. He made the following comments fol lowing the U.S. Entity recommen dation.) The modernization o f the Columbia River Treaty is in the best interest o f our re gion, the United States, and everyone who relies on the Columbia River. There appears to be broad level support from the tribes for the recommendation. The tribes are committed to working with the U.S. D e partm ent o f State to ensure that a modernized Columbia River Treaty is realized. This is the fifth year for Marine Corp League D etachm ent No. 1308 to manage the Toys for Tots drive in Deschutes, Crook, andjefferson counties.
