Dave McMechan/Spilyay K-8 school construction meeting Thè tribes, school district, construction contractors and architects will host two infor m ation meetings regarding the Warm Springs k-8 school and other upcoming district construction projects. The first meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. this Thursday, May 16, at the Jefferson County School District office, located at 445 SE B u ff S treet in Madras. The second meet ing starts at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday, May 16, at the Agency Longhouse. The meeting is for all Sub contractors, businesses, ven dors and individuals who are interested in the school dis trict construction projects, including the Warm Springs school. The projects manager o f th e W arm Springs school project is the Wenaha Group, the architect is BBT Archi tects o f Bend, and the gen eral c o n tra c to r is K irb y Nagelhout. The general con tractor for other district im provem ents, including the performing arts center at the high school, is Skanska. The contractors, tribal and school district officials will provide an update on the de sign, construction and sched ules o f the projects. A dvanced gardening classes will be held at the community garden by the adm inistration building, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m, on the follow ing dates covering these topics: Friday, May 17: Propogation and garden planning. Wednesday, May 22: Fertilization, com posting and cultivation. Tuesday, June 4: G ar den maintenance. Tuesday, June 18: Seed saving and harvesting. Ellise is 13, and a student at th e Je ffe rs o n C o u n ty Middle School. b r r She'has .been working-hard all year making blankets, hats and survival bracelets to raise $2,800 for the trip. “I have a few more orders to do and have about $300 m ore to go. We are almost there,” she says. Ellise will leave June 19 fo r th e w eek -lo n g cam p, w here participants will be cleaning the tanks at the hos pital, tending to the turtles, and staying up late to Walk the beaches looking for sea turtle nests. Ellise explains how the turtles end up in the hospital: “A lot o f sea turtles go there ' understands that it will take eight years o f college after finishing high school. She enjoys working with animals and found out about this camp from some o f her grandmother’s friends. “ O ne year my gran d m a’s Ellise David because they are being suf focated from the plastic bags which they think are jellyfish. And a lot o f them get hurt from boat propellers and fish ing hooks.” Ellise has plans to become “the first vet on the rez,” and friends came to visit her, and they were talking about their jobs. One worked ih Washing ton D.C;, one worked in New Y ork, an d o n e said she worked in N orth Carolina at a Sea Turtle Hospital.” Ellise is the daughter o f Butch and Angie David, who b o th w o rk fo r th e 509-J School District. H ow lak Tichum Darrel Wayne, Abrahamson, 1952-2013 J D a rre l W ayne A b rah am so n p assed away peacefully on May 1,2013, on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. He w as an enrolled member o f the Colville C onfederated T ribes, as well as the S p okane and C oeur d’Alene Tribes, He was born at hom e in Spo kane, W ash in g to n to James A braham son Sr. and Violet Friedländer Abrahamson. D arrel was a w ell- know n powwow tradi tional dancer and had tra v eled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, as well as over-seas. H e was a champion in his dance style, and w as asked many times to be a head dancer, arena director, and head judge at pow wows and gatherings. His noted position was a two- time head drum judge at the Gathering o f Nations, one o f the largest events in In dian Country. H e was very proud o f his Native heritage, and appeared in numerous documentaries and coordi nated cultural events, and gatherings. Darrel was a veteran and was proud o f his service to protect our homeland. H e was in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974, and asked many times to bring in the Ameri can flag for cultural events and gatherings as a veteran. Darrel is survived by his w ife, R ose A nn Abrahamson, a member o f th e S h o sh o n e B an n o ck Tribes, and four daughters, D u stin a (Jamie F arm er), Lacey (Kyle Bacon), Willow (C lair F ox), an d L eela A b ra h a m so n , an d fo u r g ra n d c h ild re n (E lijah , Z ahnive, N akeezaka, and Mika Rose). H e is also survived by his father James A braham son Sr., his b ro th e r Jam es A braham son.Jr., nieces and nephews, and many extended family m em bers. H e had also ex tended his love to others an d a d o p te d m any people th ro u g h o u t In dian C o u n try and the Powwow Circle, and is survived by them all. H e was preceded in death by his mother Vio le t F.
