(AP) - S o m e I n d i a n tr ib e s h a v e started receiving their shares o f a $1 billion settlem ent w ith the U.S. governm ent over m is m anagem ent o f their m oney and tru st lands, while others are w aiting an d rem ain u n d e cided on w hat to do w ith their windfall. T h e a g re e m e n t b e tw ee n the g ov ernm ent and 44 tribes a c ro ss th e n a tio n w as a n n o u n c ed in M arch to settle claims o f m oney lo st in m is m anaged accounts and royal ties fro m n a tu ra l re so u rc e developm ent. T h e tribes sued in an at tem p t to receive an account in g of th e In te rio r D e p a rtm e n t's m a n a g e m e n t o f th e tr u s t fu n d s a n d to learn how m uch had been lo s t T h e ir claim s d e a lt w ith tribal tru st funds and n o t in dividual tru st funds, w hich is addressed in the $3.4 billion class-action settlem ent led by E louise Cobell, the Blackfeet w om an w h o died last year.
