It has been show n to low er blood pressure and helps fight infections. It is a great w ay to add flavor to food w ith out adding extra salt and fats. T ty adding it to p asta dishes, veggies, eggs, soups and stews. M ake a simple and healthy garlic bread b y toasting bread and th en rubbing a p eeled gar lic clove on it. Som e nutrients found in garlic: • V ita m in C (g o o d fo r im m u n e sy stem an d h ealin g cuts) • Iro n (good for blood health) • C a lc iu m .(g'ood' f o r strong bones and teeth) Youth wild horse racers shank making class a success D tiring Spring B reak 20 youth joined Edison Yazzie (4-H Volunteer) to learn how to braid a W ild H orse R acers shank rope. A lthough the shank rope braid, w as very com plicated, m any parents stayed .the entire length o f the class to help their stu dent. The purpose o f this class w as to pro vide an activity that could b e learned and handed dow n to the youth. The O SU Extension N utrition Team w e re a ls o p re s e n t w ith healthy snacks and inform ation. A 'c o m m u n ity g ard en is being planned under the lead ership o f P o lice O fficer K en are n o t very deep and need to be built up through adding or ganic m atter such as com post. M a n y v e g e ta b le s an d so m e fruits w ere discussed. Tips for extending the grow ing season w ere discussed such as the use o f a hoophouse (greenhouse).
