The tribes honored the team last week with a recognition dinner at the Agency Longhouse (above). The girls had a great regular season, and were ranked No. 1 at the end of the season. Then in the first game of the tournament, the Philomath Warriors held on for a narrow upset victory over Madras. Warm Springs is one o f 131 federally recognized tribes that will receive grant money from the National Park Service’s His toric Preservation Fund for their tribal historic preservation of fices. Tribal historic preservation officers work alongside the Ad- visory Council o f Historic Pres ervation to safeguard historic places on tribal lands. The of ficers also act as consultants for preservation council when his toric places could be affected by th e u n d ertak in g s o f federal agencies. Since 1970, the Park Service has awarded approximately $37 million in annual grants for state and tribal historic preservation offices under the National His toric Preservation Act. Monthly enrollments are usually held on the third week o f the month, and are for au tomatic enrollment with one- quarter degree Indian blood. Complete applications are to be subm itted on or before the tenth o f each month. I f you are unmarried, or married after the child was bom and to use the father o f child’s blood, you need to con tact the Tribal Court at 541- 553-3278 and schedule a fili ation order (also known as paternity). The cost is $25. Once the filiation order is completed, you must take it to V ital S tatistics d e p a rt ment. Please note: Vital Sta tistics has their own enroll ments forms and this is sepa rate from the Tribal C ourt paternity form. Adoption O ur office is getting a lot o f calls for the adoption require ments. O ur Vital Statistic de partm ent is going by the Tribal Constitution and By-laws. A doption is for any person o f one-eighth or m ore Indian blood who is a descendant o f a member or former mem ber o f th e C o n fed erated T ribes o f Warm Springs: P ro v id ed that any person adopted into mem bership m ust have resided at least three years upon the Warm Springs Reservation, and shall n ot be a member o f any other tribe o f Indians. The Vital Statistic department is working on adoption files. Some letters have been returned due to no update o f address. It is the parent’s responsibility to update address and com plete application as needed. Dual Enrollm ent O u r office has received several calls on dual enroll ment. We are currently working on an enrollm ent ordinance th at addresses dual enroll ment. Vital Statistics department presented a resolution (no. 11,578) passed on February 21,2012, that for tribal mem bers with dual enrollment and with debt to tribe, allows use o f special per capita and se nior pension to be applied to debt. Persons age 21 and over with dual enrollment who do n ot have debt with the tribe can com plete a relinquish m ent form and submit to Vi tal Statistics department. (See resolution 1 1 ,5 7 8 on p a g e 5 .) Photography Camp for Native American Teens T he 2012 Jo u rn ey s cam p them e is “Catching O ur Own Shadows.” Native American photogra pher Larry McNeil will instruct youth ages 15-19 on techniques o f photography, both digital and traditional film. Students will learn photogra phy techniques, how to develop their own film, and how to digi tally correct images. The program is free to se lected individuals; how ever, travel is not covered. Worskhops will take place at the Oregon College o f A rt and C raft in Portland over a two week period. Students will be housed in dorm-style units for the duration. Students will be accompanied by guides/chaper L- ft * ones throughout the program’s durations. Students will gain hands-on experience in the college life as they participate in intensive art workshops. Native American preference will be given during the selec tion process. T he application deadline is April 2. Students who are accepted into the program will be contacted on April 13. Native youth who are inter- ested m ust subm it an applica tion, a letter o f recom m enda tion from a teacher or commu nity leader (no family members, please), a letter o f interest and examples o f their work.
