The results are as follows: By Duran Bobb Spi/yay Tymoo A lv is Sm ith III and V ivian Smith are the recipients of the Fourth Annual For the Love of the Game Priscilla Squiemphen- Yazzie Memorial Award. “These two were chosen out o f the m any w ho co ach ,” Edison Yazzie said. “They pro vide answers that kids are look ing for in this world. They let the kids know, there’s a world out there, get out o f Warm Springs and see what the rest of the world looks like.” The First Memorial Award w en t to E arl and R ita Squiemphen. “We picked them as a gesture of thanks for all that they do,” said Edison. “ You can see them out there doing bake sales and gobs o f other things for basketball.” Rosa Graybael won the sec ond award. “She coached many different youth activities from middle school to grade school to high school,” he said. ‘Y ou can see her at the different p la c e s— W ash in gto n , Reno, wherever she’s needed.” Last year’s winner was Tony Holhday. “These recipients get the same awards as the champi Saturday, May 14 Yvonne Ivenson/Spilyay Fourth Annual For Love of the Game award winners Vivian Smith and Alvis Smith III. ons, down to the letterin g,” Edison said. Recipients are chosen based on what they give to the youth in all Warm Springs sports. “It’s not just money, but the time and effort that they give to kids can mean so much to everybody. It’s unselfish devotion.” Next year’s recipient will be chosen based on nominations. Edison says, “Teri and Amanda Squiem phen are u su ally the ones who have the difficult task of choosing one recipient. But next year we’re going to let the community nominate, because as I see it there are so many folks out there who give so much of themselves.” Saddle bronc: Ralph Moses. Bulls: Joe Escalera. Participants lost an average of 12.64 pounds each. O f the 238 p eo p le w ho started the challenge, 99 (42 percen t) fin ish ed . F ourteen women’s teams entered and six finished. Sixteen mixed teams entered and eight finished. The first-place team for the women was team Ju st Do It! Team m em bers are Shea S c h ie rlin g , K athy Jo h n so n , K athy A nd erson and B ekki Tucker. They won $525 each. The top mixed team was In It To Lose It. Team members are Jane Ahern, Mike Ahern, Shannon Ahern and Dan Ahern. They won $150 each. From Warm Springs, team A Ton O f Fun took third place among the mixed teams. The team m em bers are Ja b b a r D avis, B en B islan d , N ancy Seyler and Chris Smith. They won $49.50 each. First place among the women was Jane Ahern, who lost 32.4 pounds, and won $971.25. Secon d p lace w as L acey M ille r; th ird , C hris Sm ith; fourth, Jenna Johnson; and fifth, Jenne Elston-Khorvash. Among the men, Dave W il son lost the most weight (50.2 pounds), and won $323.75. Am ong the Warm Springs participants, Chris Smith was third place among the women; and Jenna Johnson was fourth.
