Spilyay Tyrooo, Warm Springs, Oregon Letters to the Editor The election The Election Board for the tribes were appointed by Tribal Council Resolution by both the 24th and 25th Tribal Councils. The election was governed by our C onstitution and By Laws, O rdinance No. 44 and had close supervision and moni toring by the Vital Statistics di rector, Governmental Affairs di rector and BIA superintendent. T hese appointm ents were made because they have the faith, confidence and trust o f those to carry out the duties to govern the tribal elections and referendums.' The Election Board staff did a highly professional and ethi cal job. I wish to thank Steno P o o l S u p erv iso r T h eresa “T a te s” V anP elt an d L ynn Davis, as acting Secretary-Trea surer, for allowing the Election Board to use the Tribal Council car to get ballots or “run” bal lots to those who couldn’t make it down to the polls. I would also like to thank the Warm Springs Police D epart m ent and Jefferson County Jail Commander Tony Lewis for ar rangements that allowed the in mates to vote in the election. Thanks also goes out to Vi tal S tats D ire c to r O livia Wallulatum and Lucille Suppah- Sampson and others for mak ing sure the absentee ballots were done and sent out in the mail in a timely manner. Finally a big thanks to each and every tribal member who voted (absentee or at the polls). We had a record turnout o f eli gible voters. Sixty percent is re ally great and a testimony of our people! In closing, I want to thank each and every m em ber o f the Election and Counting Boards. This election was a job well done by each o f you. Election Board and Counting Board members are: A rlita R hoan, V io letta V aeth, L eah H enry, B irney Greene-Boise, Beulah Tsumpti, William Rhoan, Shirley Sanders and Neda Wesley. I would also like to thank Louie Pitt and Paul Young. You two did an excellent job and put in many hours monitoring and su p erv isin g th e election. I wish to congratulate the elected members o f the Twenty- Fifth Tribal Council. Each o f you have my confidence and support as well as our Tribal Chiefs. In closing, I would like to ad dress many “rum ors” out in the com m unity. T h e E le c tio n B oard, se c re ta ry -tre a su re r/ C.E;O and BIA superintendent made sure this election was fair, honest, complete with the ut m ost levels o f integrity and trustworthiness. We made sure each absentee ballot was mailed with enough time for all non-residents to vote. A record turnout is a testi mony this was completed. These standards were also applied to the “runners,” w hich ballots were directly deposited in the ballot box after a person(s) voted. Cordially, Floyd Calica.
