The Simnasho community will host the Thirty-Third An nual Lincoln’s Birthday Powwow on Feb. 12-14 at the Simnasho Longhouse. One o f the Specials this year will be the Women’s (Old Style) H ighstep War D ance, sh o rt fringe shell dress. This will be in memory of the three Q uehpam a sisters (atwai), N ettie, M atilda and Sylvia, and Fern Q ueahpam a Begay. This Special was Fern’s idea before she passed on. It is now sp o n so red by N o ren e Queahpama Greene and Anna Queahpama Clements. Fundraising efforts are by raffle ticket sales for all events. Please supp o rt the Powwow Queen candidates by purchas ing tickets. The candidates are Rianna Wolfe, Lupita Tohet and Meleah Collins. Memorial and blessing The powwow memorial and blessing is held on the Saturday before the powwow weekend. The memorial and blessing, and rejoining of the dancing circle, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 at th e Sim nasho Longhouse.
