Tribal elders, their guests and volunteers gathered at the Cove Palisades State Park last month for the annual Elders Picnic. During the picnic, Charlotte Herkshan (at left in the picture at right) shared a laugh with Hilda Culpus. Many volunteers from Warm Springs (pictures below) helped with the picnic. School sports physicals STEEEC Sports physicals are sched uled fo r stu d e n ts w ho are p la n n in g to p a rtic ip a te in sports at the Jefferson County M iddle School and M adras High School. Physicals will be given from 3 to 6 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 13 at the Warm Springs Health This service is available to students w ho are eligible for IHS service. Physicals will be given on a first-come, first- serve basis. Form s m ust be filled out and signed by a p a re n t o r guardian before the student is seen for the physical. Form s an d W ellness Center. Physicals are available a t th e M edical 475-7123 will also be given from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Health and Wellness Center. Car Audio - CB Radios Resource team approves 3 projects T he Resource M anagem ent Inter-disciplinary Team recendy approved three small projects presented to them through the IRM P process. T h e first p ro jec t involved culvert replacement and a drain age system for a new fire hall in the Sidwalter area. T he culvert replacem ent will alleviate the problem o f water backing up during periods o f high runoff, while a series o f lead -o ff ditches will be c o n structed to drain w ater away from the proposed fire hall site. A nother project approved by R M ID T is the dem olition o f a house and removal o f an old oil tank at 4116 Miller Heights. All o f the m aterial will be rem oved by a certified contrac to r an d tak en to th e W arm Springs Landfill. O nce the site is cleared a new hom e will be constructed. Approval was also granted to drainage im provem ents at the W arm Springs Mill. R unoff water had been tax ing the existing system and flow ing into the Deschutes River. T he new system will elimi nate two small channels th at were carrying water to the river and create two inland settling ponds to im prove water filtra tion and capture surface runoff.
