Craig is an independent film producer. H e directed the Geronimo episode of the PBS series We Shall Remain. In Warm Springs he inter viewed Nola Queahpama and Lucinda Green about tribal cul tural traditions. The information from these and other interviews will be shared in the training video with law enforcement officers and investigators, such as the FBI. Officers need to be aware of tribal traditions during their re^ sponse .to criminal cases on the reservation, said Sammy Bruised Head, of Victims o f Crime Ser vices. Bruised Head assisted Craig and Declay while they were in Warm Springs. N o la Q ueahpam a and Lucinda Green were chosen for the Warm Springs interviews because of their experience in advocacy and cultural knowl edge, said Bruised Head. Besides the Warm Springs tribal members, the filmmakers in terview ed Indians from Choctaw, Miss., Pine Ridge, South D akota, and Barrow, Alaska. T he video is being p ro duced for Unified Solutions, and will be about 30 minutes in length. The issue being addressed happens when law enforcement is called in to investigate a ma jor crime such as homicide on the reservation. The Fourth of July is near, and that means pa rades, barbecues, family g et-to g eth e rs and o f course fireworks. Before all the celebrat ing begins, please read and follow these safety rules that Smokey Bear and Fire Management would like everyone in the commu nity to follow: Be prepared... before you light fireworks. Purchase only legal fireworks, available at li censed firework stands. Ensure the safety o f pets. Keep a bucket of wa ter handy in which to place all used fireworks. Have a water hose or fire extin guisher nearby to put out stray sparks. Be safe... when light ing fireworks: Have an adult light all fireworks. Light one fire work at a time. Use fire works only outdoors, away from anything that can burn. Be responsible... after you finish: Be co n sid erate o f neighbors. Clean up all debris when finished. If a firework does not light or fire, an adult should wait at least 15 minutes and ap proach it carefully. Make sure all unused fireworks, matches and fighters are out o f sight and reach of children. Have a happy Fourth o f July and remember to keep Smokey Bear from becoming a grumpy Bear by being prepared, being safe and being responsible with the use o f fireworks this year.
