Justice Team, Council seek input on proposed changes to tribal code The tribal Justice Team has presented the proposed amend m ents to the Warm Springs Tribal Council for consider ation. The Tribal Council and the Justice Team now seek input from the community on these proposals. Meetings in each o f the three districts has scheduled to discuss the proposed amendments. The Agency District meeting, at first scheduled for Tuesday of this week, is being rescheduled. The Simnasho District meet ing is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. on T hursday, A pril 30 at the Simnasho Longhouse. T he Seekseequa D istrict meeting is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Spirit Warrior gathering at HeHe T hese p ro p o se d am en d m ents affect C hapter 305— Crimes, and Chapter 307-Liquor Violations o f the Warm Springs Tribal Code. Coulter Key Operator Award. Hewson has been certified as a key operator for the ac cess 2 immunoassay machine that processes laboratory tests for the Health and Wellness Center. Tests sucfi as thyroid func tion, cardiac enzymes, hor m ones, quantitative p reg nancy tests, and pro state screening tests are run on this vital piece of equipment. Hewson had to complete numerous criteria while in ini tial training in 2007. She stayed voluntarily after class each day, completing up to five compEcated repair mod ules to test her proficiency on the equipment. She then needed to meet the final criteria o f being able Betty Hewson with award. to communicate with Beckman Coulter technical support staff and the field engineers during a major instrument failure to re pair the problem. She accom plished this in January o f 2008, during the win ter weather season, much to the deEght o f the engineers who did not need to travel in the winter weather. T hrough achieving this credential, Hewson not only helps the Warm Springs clinic by keeping one o f their im portant laboratory machines from going down for any length o f time, but she also helps Beckman Coulter staff from having to travel. T he B eckm an C oulter company takes pride in their key operators, and awards them a personal plaque and an emerald embossed brass lapel pin. Additionally, H ew son’s name will appear on a name plate that is displayed on their “key operator” achievement waU in Brea, CaEfornia, as an inspiration to others that at tend training on the Beckman Coulter Laboratory machines.
