Spilyay Tymoo, Warm Springs, Oregon Page 5 April 23, 2009 Second phase p lan n ed for W est H ills beautification The West Hills Beautification was a one o f a kind community g a th e rin g th a t w as d eep ly needed. A nd best o f all, it was very much appreciated. T here have been so many in quiries about the work we com pleted in the area, and it cer tainly could n o t have been done w ithout you. T h e re is a n o th e r exciting event coming up, Beautification II. T he first West Hills Beautifi cation project results are still ap p a re n t today, as the well- groom ed sidewalks continue to provide youth and pedestrians with safer sidewalk conditions. We would like to do the same for another subdivision on the W arm Springs Indian Reserva tion. Only this time the project has collaborated w ith a state wide effort in May. T he project in May will be in conjunction w ith the “Taking Care O f O regon Days,” part o f the O regon 150 activities. O ne way you can pay tribute to this place you call hom e is by being a part o f the project. O r egonians from every corner o f the state are invited to roll up their sleeves during O regon’s b irth d ay co m m em o ratio n to give back to their state. Taking Care o f O regon Days will be a coordinated effort o f hundreds o f projects statewide. We w ould like to have the community’s input on where the project takes place here in Warm Springs. Comm unity input will help increase the volunteer turnout, giving the community another opportunity to participate in a project we can call o ur own. T h e objective: C lean and weed all public areas in a W arm Springs subdivision. Vision: Tribal communities coming together to make a dif ference their environment. We are planning to hold this safe, useful and fun project on S aturday, M ay 30. We have'created another m ark to raise $984 from our caring and hum ble com m unity m em bers and associates. We realize th a t funding is tough these days, so we are also a c c e p tin g g ifts, p riz e s, lan d scap in g eq u ip m en t, and trash bags from appreciated do nators and lenders. O nce we receive enough in put from the community, we will attach pictures o f the target ar eas throughout the reservation. We are really hoping to include the playgrounds too, b u t it de p en d s solely o n th e am o u n t o f comm itted volunteers we get in the planning stages and dur ing the project. O n M ayl5, we will p ost no tices on front doors throughout the target beautification area, explaining the project and how the residents are able to help. I f you are unable to partici- pate in th e project, there are other small ways you can con tribute: Helping to get the w ord out by talking with people about the project; D onating food and beverage item s, garbage bags, w eeding tools, solution a n d /o r gloves; A nd even your highly appre ciated blessing is more than gen erous. We thank you all for tuning in to th e W arm S p rin g s Beautification Project, as this may definitely be another one for the books. April 30 raffle helps with costs Friends and family o f Valerie Squiemphen are holding a raffle with prizes including a Pendleton blanket, donated by the Credit enterprise staff, and two $50 gas gift cards. Proceeds will help Val, who had an aneurism and spent a m onth in the hospital. D octors say she will have a long recov ery, and Val is currently under- going physical and occupational therapy.
