Input needed for Geotourism Map Why do you love living in this community? W hat is unique abo u t this area that cannot be found any where else in the world? Your answers to these ques tions will help in treating a N a tional G eo g rap h ic m ap th a t will be distributed around the world. The Confederated Tribes o f Warm Springs is participating in this region-wide project, called the Central Cascades Geotourism Map Guide. Partners with the tribes are the National Geographic Soci ety, Travel O regon, Rural D e velopm ent Initiatives, am ong others. What is a Geotourism Mapguide? The Mapguide is your chance to share with the world what you, as the resident expert, love about the natural, cultural or histori cal sites and experiences in the community. T h e in fo rm a tio n w ill be shared with the world through a National Geographic quality map and website. The aim o f the project is to get tourists to visit areas that they otherwise would n ot know of. W hen they visit, they bring their dollars with them, helping the local economy. Jo in your neighbors w hen Rural Development Initiatives, the nonprofit helping with this project, holds an inform ation session in Warm Springs. The information session is set for 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Museum at Warm Springs. Shandor, who lives in Las Vegas, is considered by many to be the num ber one Elvis look- and sound-alike. Tribes seek Miss Warm Springs candidates The Confederated Tribes o f Warm Springs is seeking eligible candidates to compete for the title o f 2009 Miss Warm Springs and represent the tribes at vari ous functions. I f you are in te re ste d and meet the following rules you can pick up an application at the Administrative Service Center office or you can call 553-3257 for an application to be mailed to you. Applications will be accepted up until the end o f the business day o f Friday, January 23. The pageant will be held on Friday, January 30. The contestant general rules are: Any girl m ust be 18-24 years o f age, as lo n g as th e g irl reach es 18 b e fo re th e M iss W arm Springs pageant. She m ust never have been married, cohab itatin g or have d ep en dents. She m ust be a m em ber o f th e C o n fe d e ra te d T rib es o f Warm Springs, and a resident o f the reservation for at least one year. She m ust retain residency o f the reservation for at least one year after she w ins th e title. I f fo r som e re a s o n M iss Warm Springs cannot meet her obligations, her alternate shall represent the tribes. She m ust be able to repre sent the tribes by travelling, be ing involved in other pageants, social events, intertribal busi- ness/social events, public rela tions functions and whenever necessary, for one year during her reign. She m ust be dedicated and willing to learn. I f the contestant holds an other title, she must attend and re p re se n t th e C o n fed erated Tribes as Miss Warm Springs if the tribes are financing a par ticular trip or event. Calendar of activities Food handler classes will be held on the following dates for 2009: January 15, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, May 26, June 9, June 18, July 14, September 22, O ctober 13, November 10, Decem ber 8. All classes are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the clinic atrium. E agle Watch 2009 is scheduled for Saturday and Sun day, Feb. 21-22.
