There have been so many in quiries about the work we com pleted in the area and it certainly could not have been done w ith out you. I w ould like to send extra special thanks out to Verbena G reene’s family for all your time and encouragement. Also, thank you to the Madras Full Gospel Church for spreading the pro m otion to lengths we could not have reached alone. The West Hills Beautification Project was certainly one for the record as the neighborhood is now clear fo r th e C hild ren ’s Trick or Treating night and pe destrians. It’s hunting season again, and Fire Management would like to rem ind all those head ing out to the forest that the fire danger is still high. T he com bination o f dry w eather and high tem pera tures this summer have cre ated a tinderbox situation in our forests and wild lands—a situation that will n ot change in the near future, not until there is a significant amount o f rainfall. I f you are p lan n in g to spend time outside hunting, fishing or camping, please be aware o f fire restrictions be fore you leave. Please follow these hunter safety points: I f you are b u ild in g a w arm ing fire clear an area dow n to m ineral earth 10 feet across. Be sure your fire is away from any flammable m aterial i.e. dry grasses or forest litter. N ever leave your cam p fire u n atten d ed and make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving. D row n the fire w ith w ater and stir remains to make sure the fire is out. K eep your fire small and controllable. Keep a shovel, axe, bucket a n d / o r fire e x tin g u is h e r handy. I f you sm oke, clear an area 3 foot in diameter down to bare dirt. D o n ’t sm oke w hile traveling on fo o t or horseback. L im it use o f m otorized vehicles to established roads or trails. D o not park vehicles over dry grasses or brush. H o t ex h au st system s can and do start fires. I f you see a fire, note its location, get to a phone and call 9-1-1 immediately. Enjoy your time in the woods and have a safe hunting season. While they will be holding winter events, director Chris Buller said the schedule isn’t as c o n s is te n t d u e to th e weather. F am ilies can lo o k fo r events throughout the winter, he added. Sanctuary hosted a family night at the stables at Kah-Nee- T a on the first Sunday o f every m o n th as p a rt o f th e organization’s efforts to help the Warm Springs Community. In addition to projects to help local youth and families, Sanc tu ary o p e ra te s th e Ik iu ta n 1 stables at Kah-Nee-Ta. According to Buller, Sanctu ary put approximately $49,000 back in to th e W arm Springs community last year. Buller’s organizations, the Serving you since 1985 “W e ’ve got you covered!” C h ris tia n -b a s e d S a n c tu a ry > and the secular Faith Trails, are both non-profit organiza tions that have been work ing with people on the reser vation for several years.
