Tribal leaders will meet again with Robertson when members of Tribal Council atten d the O H SU Tribal Summit in Portland later this month. Oregon Health Sciences U niversity P re sid en t Joe Robertson Jr. visited Warm Springs recently as part of a rural outreach tour through Oregon. Robertson met with Tribal C ouncil, to u red Indian H ealth Services, and had lunch with elders at the Se nior Program during his time on the reservation. Robertson also met with tribal health administrators, health professionals and O HSU students w ho are working in Warm Springs as part of OHSU’sArea Health Education Center Rural and Community Health Clerk ship. Robertson visited Warm Springs as part of his efforts to consult directly with the nine tribes of Oregon. Robertson is working to meet with all of O regon’s tribes to learn how OHSU can best work together to ad vance health care delivery, education and the elimination The Early Childhood Educa tion Center will host the annual Lil’ Pum pkins Parade from 9:30-11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. This is a fun time for the ECE classrooms to go trick-or- treating through the hallways of ECE and then parade across to the Warm Springs Clinic. ECE is extending an invita tion to all the Warm Springs administration departments and enterprises to donate and par ticipate in a variety o f ways. D onations: Pre-packaged candy and healthy snacks (noth ing homemade); prevention or promotional items and material appropriate for preschool aged children; decorations for tables. Volunteers are needed to d ecorate the tables, hand out candy, and take photos. Also, donations of cos tumes in good condition for children who don’t have cos tumes are greatly appreciated. Twenty-five years ago this week There were nearly 1,200 Indian tribal leaders and rep resentatives gathered for the fortieth convention o f the N ational Congress o f the American Indians, held this year in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A tribute to late Chief Amos' Simtustus was a por tion o f the first session, as members o f the Rules and Credentials Committee gave a brief history o f the work done by Simtustus with that committee. He was dependable, will ing, loyal to his duties, and often committee members looked to him for wisdom. In other news: Like her mother and her Leslie Mitts/Spilyay CRITFC hosting food handling course in W.S. The Columbia River Inter- Tribal Fish Commission is spon soring a two-day course in Warm Springs on food safety regula tions. The course will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14-15 in the conference room at the N atural R esources E ugene Greene Sr. Building. The Food and Drug Admin istration requires that all seafood sold or produced in the U.S. be processed under a plan and un der the supervision o f a trained individual. This two-day course will pro vide you with the skills to meet those requirements. The course will cover food safety regulations known as H azard Analysis and Critical Control Point, or HACCP (pro nounced “Hassip”). Simply your attendance and participation in the program fulfill the requirement. Certificates will be awarded to those who participate and complete the course. Lunch will be provided.
