T h e o r ig in a l f o u n d e rs o f N athan’s Business Services ate still being h o n o red w ith their p h oto o n the wall as th e busy tax season com es to an end. T he business later m oved to a building o n the cam pus and had four employees. In fact, files from the very start o f the business are still available— and the detailed records from so m any years ago often surprise d ients w h o haven’t h a d th e ir ta x e s p r e p a r e d by N a th a n ’s B usiness S ervices in awhile, N ath an said. N athan helped his parents start up their business, so it only m ade sense for him to take over later. “I saw it sta rt fro m th e b e ginning,” N a th a n said. “ I feel p r o u d b e c a u se its so m e th in g th a t m y m o m d ream t o f h a p pening.” N a t h a n m o v e d t o W a rm Springs to take over the business w h en his p aren ts w ere g o ing to close it due to his m o th e r’s o n g o in g health problem s. E v en after that, N a th a n said, his m o th e r rem ained at the busi ness as th e office m anager until she p assed away last year. “ She loved th e business,” he said. T h a t’s w hy it’s im p o rta n t to N a th a n to keep th e business in- the family. “I to ld h e r I w as g o ing to try to carry it o n as m u ch as I can,” he said, an d also p a rt o f th e rea tu res th a t h e r u n s d u rin g th e su m m er m onths. A f te r h is m o t h e r ’s d e a th , N a th a n said, m any com m unity m em bers didn’t realize the busi ness w as even still running. B u t N a th a n ’s B usiness Services re m ains o p en fo r cu stom ers w h o n eed tax p rep aratio n an d o th e r services like payroll, bu sin e ss consulting an d bookkeeping. I n fact, th ey can also help teach business h o w to success fully keep th eir records. A ccording to W illiam s, “We d o teach th e m h o w to organize th eir reco rd s a lo t b etter.” A s fo r tax services, N a th a n said, th ey o ffer things like e-fil ing, re fu n d transfers, in sta n t re funds an d m ore. T h ey can do business taxes and can even help p e o p le w ith se lf-p re p a re d re tu rn s w h o n eed to e-file. T hey also have a lot o f experi ence w ith tax item s that deal spe cifically w ith N ative Americans. “We try to keep up to date w ith all the N ative A m erican tax is sues,” Williams said, and the at te n d a training every year th a t deals specifically w ith those issues. I n ad dition to local cu sto m ers, she added, they also serve clients fro m M adras. Y o u really feel a p a rt o f everyone’s lives.” B ecause o f th e su m m er b u si ness, a n d th e r u s h d u rin g tax season, N a th a n said, th ey stay b u sy alm o st y ear-ro u n d , except fo r a b reak d u rin g th e holiday season.
