Proje/t Reach teaches Native culture

The children
I have sat back and watched
from a “close” distance some of
the behavior that goes on in
Warm Springs, and I have to say
that it is extremely dishearten­
ing to me.
First o f all, to some of the
parents out there, who make the
choice to powwow, bowl, rodeo,
play pool, or whatever it is that
is more important to you than
knowing where you’re your chil­
dren are, who they are with or
what they are doing: Stop.
Second of all, to parents who
are allowing your children to
drink and do drugs with you:
stop!
I f people don’t care enough
to stop whatever it is that they
have made as a bigger priority
then w hat their children are,
then know this, you cannot go
around blaming other people
for whatever happens.
Your lack o f involvement
in yo u r c h ild re n ’s lives, .
whether it’s a lack o f commu­
nication or w hatever, is on
“you” as the parent. T h a t’s
how it is!
N ot one single persôn has
any right whatsoever to blame
anyone for what their m inor
children are, or are . not doing,
including drinking o r doing
drugs. D on’t you love your chil­
dren?
If children are drinking and
dying, it’s not because o f any­
one else, it’s because the parents
are not stepping up and giving
them something better to live
for.
People need to stop blaming
others fo r the death rate in
Warm Springs and step up and
take responsibility for their own
families.
You cannot blame anyone,
because “you do n o t know
where your children are.”
It is your job as parents y
know these things and to ccr
trol your children.
